To put all of this in perspective, we are comparing a software app developed by one person to Video Capture developed by an entire team working for a very large corporation.

Some years ago (around 1999-2000) when i started a big, zillion video files educationnal project, i remember everybody telling me that tapeless shooting was impossible to do reliably (the Mac guys also told me that video editing did'nt work on a PC, but that's another story...).

After playing a little with Scenalyser, i quickly realized that it could be much more than a capture tool and could work very well as a live recording tool on a laptop. I use it this way many times a week since 7 years and never experimented problems.

It is so reliable and responsive that you can even quickly rename or delete takes when actually live recording other ones.

"I was more than a little upset to find that vidcap only got me one channel of audio! "

To the best of my knowledge, all NLE capture programs get two channels of audio. Scenalyzer seems to be the only program that will capture all four channels in the DV spec.
