Writing / Spray animation

I'm looking to create an animated writing type of effect - similar to the following:

These people used after effects, I'm wondering if there is a way to accomplish something similar in Vegas? I realize I could just have a rectangle mask slide to reveal the text/logo underneath, but this looks much more realistic.

I've done this sort of effect in Flash; I would frame-by-frame erase a little bit of the text, starting at the end and erasing like the letter would actually be written, but in reverse. When all the text was erased, I could select all the key frames and reverse them. Upon playback, it looks just like it's being written on screen.

Obviously the keyframes in Vegas don't work the same way, but any advice on how I might accomplish this would be appreciated.

Vegas has never been able to do this well. Everything that's been suggested over the years has simply been a lackluster workaround that doesn't look very good or takes way too long to accomplish.

BluffTitler can do the basic effect .. However, I don't think there is any "spatter" effect.

Why not, if you still have access to it, use Flash and import it with an alpha channel background? I have used Swishmax for a similar type effect and it works well (mine was set up like a typewriter though).

Mask the text out letter for letter it takes a few minutes
Then use displacement map to get the text to warp and fill texture of the wall
If you add bump map to the displacement map it will increase the effect

This only took a few minutes in Vegas I did the mask very slap dash but with little effort you can get it spot on

Looks good!

Looks as bad as doing it in AE.
The old school way looks the best. Piece of glass, green paint and a brush or a spray can. Kind of funny, doing it that way almost seems like cheating these days.

I am old fashioned. Onion skin paper. Write the words in pencil. Use a magic
marker from backside. The ink will bleed through while you film it. Mirror in Vegas.

Animated vector strokes for the matte and either Boris or AE. The trick is to use as many strokes as possible for the letters where the thickness changes. The workflow is the hardest part. Once that is down is is very fast and easy.

Here's an example of hand writing done in Vegas. Looks good to me.

I think this was done by Kelly Chien (Chienworks).

That looks great!
Was it done using the mask techinque xfx described above?

Very nice, I'll see if I can get info from Cheinworks.

Byron, to be honest with you, I don't remember.

Sorry!

It was done with masking the same as mine if you look closely you can see mask bleed

If you spend a bit of time with the Bezier curves and tracking you can get it spot on

Boris RED has a paint fx and write on for text. If you created a gradient for each letter it would write on using the gradient then you wouldn’t need to schlep
with a mask

The point that I was making is if you add a displacement map the text to follow and fill your surface you are writing on as well

This should get you going with the technique: http://www.members.iinet.net.au/~ariad/Handwriting/Handwriting[/link]

Just change the font, some track motion (perhaps in 3D space) and apply some of the other suggestions in the thread.
