Wrong MiniDV player?

I bought the JVC-BR-DV600U a few months ago, mainly to capture footage for an ongoing movie.
I use the Panasonic DVX100 and shoot at 24PA.
The only way I can capture into Vegas at that rate is through my camera since the JVC player sends only 30 frames.

Did I buy the wrong unit? If so, which would you recommend?
Is there a work around short of making the footage 24PA after capturing? Would this degrate the picture quality?

Since it's the software that takes care of the pulldown for you, you can capture footage shot with your DVX100 with any miniDV camcorder or deck , including your JVC.

I recommend reading the free 24p White Paper (PDF format) called "24p and Panasonic AG-DVX100 and AJ-SDX900
in Vegas and DVD Architect".
It explains a lot of things you may not be familiar with yet about this process.

Thanks, I will read it, although I went through the Training CD. What I still don't get is why it captures 24frames on lt through the camera player and not through the JVC player. I don't want to use the camera to feed the footage into the computer. That's why I bought the JVC.

I just want to know if I should get rid of the JVC and buy another, and which?

Thanks, I will read it, although I went through the Training CD.

The Training CD is for the camera. The article I linked to is for working with 24p footage from this camera in Vegas.

How do you know you're getting 24p capture?

As I said, it's the software (in this case, Vegas) that does the pulldown, not the deck.
I have a JVC-BR-DV3000 and have used it a few times to capture 24p footage shot with a friend's DVX-100.

Well, I capture with the camera playing the tape (shot at 24) and after capture I look at the clip properties: Attributes: 720x480x24 Format: DV (removing 2-3-3-2 pulldown) Frame rate: 23.976.

The I do the same but playing through the JVC Player : Attributes 720x480x24 Format: uncompressed
Frame rate: 29.970

I had no idea that a camera capture would show those attrubutes.
Since I've always had to return the camera, I've only ever used my JVC deck as a capture device.
I make sure project properties are set accordingly, drop the clips on the timeline and they behave as expected.

As a test, capture a clip using your camera.
Now capture the same clip with your JVC.
Start a new project, making sure that project properties are set to24p and see if there's any difference between the two.

All my new projects are auto started at 24P, however, when I check the captured clips (as explained before) the properties are different whether I capture from camera or JVC Player.

Now, a the clip captured at 30f (although shot at 24) does NOT change to 24 once put into the timeline. To change it I have to go to right click on the clip and select Media properties, then enable 2-3 pull down removal.
