XD Cam shutter setup

I recently shot a bicycle race and turned on my shutter at 1/125.
In my old D30 Betacam, this would have added clarity to the fast moving objects in the scene. However, in the XD Cam it resulted in rather extreme blurring of the cyclists passing thru the frame.

Any thoughts on what I should do different in the setup?
Are Speed & Angle in play simultaneously, or do they operate independent of each other?

When I went to edit the piece, it was quite challenging to come up with enough usable footage.

Are you certain you didn't switch the shutter to Off, that's a switch on the front of the camera under the lens.

Shutter angle and speed are the same thing except shutter angle means shutter speed is a function of frame rate as it is in a film camera.

Was this blur due to slow shutter speed or skew due to sensor readout time which is always 1/60th regardless of shutter speed / angle.

I definitely turned it on, and the results were pretty darn surprising.

Checked menu and slow shutter was not engaged, so I need to do some experimenting. It was the first time I was in a sports shooting situation with the camera....I mostly shoot commercials or station promotional spots.
