Good evening family of S V alumni , I've used SONY VEGAS for over 20 years. way back to Sony 3... recently I've been using DaVinci resolve 9 for my color correct on recent projects with great results.. as a FILM creator.. I have a 1 hour motion picture from 3 years ago and wanted to do a color correct in DaVinci.. I've tried MULTIPLE times to get an XML file FROM Vegas 20.0 for Davinci 19 and continue to receive an ARCHIVE LOG FAIL notification... why ... is this happening... I'm NOT understanding of why this is happening and will GLADLY pay ANYONE that can solve this issue for me.. I am using a TOWER computer and external HD.. anyone that solves this issue for me and assists me in creating a actual WORKING XML file will receive 100 $ via Venmo... I PAY because your time and knowledge will be worth my efforts.. I am located 2 miles from Disneyland California and eagerly await the individual that can solve my issue... If needed .,. ZOOM.. text messaging is available

Importing a XML file from Vegas into Davinci Resolve is quite easy.

1. Export the XML from Vegas timeline into a specific folder together with the used media.

2. Import in DR "Media from XML

3. Import in DR "Timeline".

For both step 2 and 3 you use the generated XML by Vegas.

Also you're using just Vegaspro for the last 9 years and not Sony Vegas.

I've tried that MANY times.. it won't even let me create an XML file... it keeps stopping halfway and listing this ARCHIVE ERROR..

then I try an import into my timeline and DR does not even see an XML file in the folder I've created.

PLEASE advise !!!

@lou-klein be aware that exporting a timeline from Vegas DOES NOT export used eventFX, trackFX, transitionfx Titles etc etc. The timeline just may have trimmed events and also cross transitions. Just try first with a simple project, like in my example:

Import first in DR:

results:

Then import in DR:

results:

Maybe, post your veg file, we will try test it.

lou-klein wrote on 1/19/2025, 7:31 PM

I;; try anything at this point... Alex-Pitel

3-Point... yes followed instructions, still have error log,,,

I was aware that the transition or plug ins may not transfer... but the fact that I cannot

even make the XML file concerns me..

thoughts..?

3POINT wrote on 1/20/2025, 12:27 AM

@lou-klein I think just posting the veg file without media makes no sense.

What media you're using anyway?

lou-klein wrote on 1/20/2025, 12:08 PM

MOV files from different cameras

QUICKTIME

1080 p from an Iphone etc.

many different clips to create the 1 hour long film.. I can send you a link to the trailer if you like.

not sure what more I can do but Re-edit the entire movie... ughhhh

I really thank you for all your interest and help in this matter.

then I try an import into my timeline and DR does not even see an XML file in the folder I've created.

PLEASE advise !!!

The error you're receiving says the following:

1.Deinterlace method ignored: The deinterlace method was ignored, but this is not necessarily a critical error; it may just be a setting or preference that wasn't applied.

2.Motion blur type ignored: The motion blur type was ignored, similar to the previous item, this may be a setting that was not applied.

3.Codec for first video event in sequence not found: @3POINT has correctly mentioned that no effects can be applied to the videos from the source project. The codec for the first video event in the sequence was not found. This indicates that VEGAS was unable to locate the necessary codec for the first video in the project. You might need to install or configure the appropriate codec.

4.Illegal characters in path (ArgumentException): This is the most significant error. The system found illegal characters in a file path. This happens because the name or path of a file or folder contains characters that are not allowed in the operating system, such as *, :, ?, etc. The error occurs when VEGAS tries to handle these paths.

The error occurs in System.IO.Path.CheckInvalidPathChars(String path), indicating that the provided path contains invalid characters. In this case, one of the files or folders mentioned in your project’s path may contain disallowed characters.

Possible cause and solution:

1.Remove all effects from the source project (if any) before exporting to .XML

2.Check if the file path or folders in the project contain special characters like #, *, :, ?, &, etc.

3.Try renaming the folders or files to remove any special or disallowed characters.

4.Ensure that the file name or path is not excessively long (some file systems have length limits).

5.After adjusting the paths or file names, try the archiving process again.

If this doesn’t resolve the issue, it might be helpful to check if there is a problem with the project file itself, such as corruption or incompatible settings.

To the excellent explanation of @joelsonforte.br I would like to add that it might be a good idea to save the veg file together with all used media in a separate folder first before exporting to a XML file. This will probably avoid errors as @joelsonforte.br described.

joelsonforte.br

will do !!! thank you ~! I will update in a day of this works..

3Point...

once again.. thank you so much for ALL your assistance it is greatly appreciated.

UPDATE

as ~joelsonforte.br~ mentioned... the problem IS that I have MANY folders with - in them that Vegas doesn't or can't understand in a folder hash tag. therefore... no matter what I do, it would be harder to rename everything since I have EX HD that have similar information on them.

in the future I think I may just move away from Vegas completely and stay on Resolve. because of the large files I have for FILM etc.

I've been a huge fan of VEGAS for years since version 10 when you could still BUY the install disk but if I CAN'T round trip into other programs .. it does me little good..

I THANK you ALL for your wonderful assistance and appreciate your insights greatly.

I hope and pray someday you all enjoy my films.
