XP to Win7 - upgrade from32 to 64 bit - files?

Ok, I've never used 64 bit before so I'm taking the plunge. Will all my past Vegas 9 projects and files still work when I upgrade to Win7 64 bit and upgrade to the 64 bit version of Vegas? Sorry for the stupid question, but I just want to make sure. I assume going to 64 bit will just change the way my mobo and processor handle everything. And yes I have a compatible cpu/mobo.

Some codecs and plugins will not work in Vegas 9 64-bit. But you can install both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions on your PC.

I'm not so concerned about that, but more about using my old Vegas project files and captured video. I'm assuming that projects will work the same in the 32 bit version of Vegas as compared to the 64 bit version, but I just want to make sure. I can't afford to lose all my old projects.

I just realized what you were saying . . . so with a single license I can install both the 32 and 64 bit versions? So two installs?

Yes, two installs. If you install the 64-bit version first, the 32-bit version will be the default Vegas Pro 9 version - for example the 32-bit version will open when you double click a veg-file in Windows Explorer. (I did this.)

When you open an old project, immediately save it under a new name. For example, you can save the old file "name.veg" (from Vegas 8) as V9_32_name.veg" or "V9_64_name.veg". In this way you know which version of Vegas you have been using to create the project.

EDIT: You do not have to uninstall any previous version of Vegas Pro.

V9 files will open in both 32 and 64 bit and are interchangable, so there would be no need to designate a 32bit or 64bit version of software. I did this before with some hardcore AVCHD Editing I had to do, where I did the cutting in Vegas Pro 9 64bit and then opened that saved project file in Vegas Pro 9 32bit (in the 64bit os) because it had access to some plugs I wanted to use for coloring, etc...

So just like you would do when upgrading and opening an old project in a new version, save as a V9_xxxxx.veg file in the same location as the old xxxxx.veg file as was suggested above, but no need to worry about 32bit and 64bit as Vegas 9 opens vegas 9 whether it's 32bit or 64bit in origin.

Dave, I do not agree because you can use some plug-ins (and codecs) in the 32-bit version and not in the 64-bit version. If you apply say ProDad Mercalli in Vegas Pro 9 (32-bit) and open the project in Vegas Pro 9 (64-bit) you will get an error / warning message. You can continue editing in the 64-bit version, but I find this annoying.
