Xvid in Sony Vegas 7.0d no video

I requested .avi files from a Mac user and received Xvid MP4 .avi files.
Vegas only imports the audio. How can I transform these into an .avi that Vegas can read? There is an Xvid codec pack online, but i really don't want to install something that could adversely affect my Sony program.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
TIA
Ken

See my old post (second post in the thread):

DivX support

I read Xvid in 7.0d all the time, using the procedure I outlined in that post.

I have this Xvid codec installed and not Divx. With it I can read in Xvid and Divx files on V8.0c and 10.0e. It doesn't seem to cause me any other problems.

Thanks John.
Downloaded the codec from their site and can now open the files in Vegas. :)
Unfortunately, the files I received are 1280x720x12 (16 bit color) from a Final Cut output. Sorenson Squeeze won't compress them (they play, but lock up the program when trying to render to any web format).
I'm having them put the good Quicktime pro Res .mov files on a data DVD. I think I can get them to a .wmv for the web from those files.
Standard DV was SO much easier.
