Yamaha CD-RW4416E - problems?

I just bought the Yamaha 4416E CDRW and now I find these
problems listed on your message board!! Problems with
particular tracks not reading well on other CD players,
problems writing a continuous sound CD, etc...

I've asked at my local computer store, and they claim that
its the fault of the old CD player that can't read a CD-R
disk as well as newer players can.

I see some comments about the type of CD-R disk - green,
silver, gold - do these really make a difference?

So the bottom line: is there something wrong with the
Yamaha? Is there a better burner? (like the HP-RW 2200i)
or is the guy at my local computer store right.

P.S. I have 2 days to exchange/upgrade my CD-RW, and I'm
considering the HP2200i !!

I have a Yamaha CDrRW6416S wich does not come in the list of
supported drives. I went to Options>Select drive...>Advanced and
chose SCSI MMC Compatible and selected the ID for my drive manually.
I suggest you try ATAPI MCC compatibe as our Yamaha drive is EIDE.
