Yamaha DSPfactory Direct X plugin/other control?

I heard a rumor (from a SF employee) that Cakewalk has
direct X plugins (dspFactory enablement) that if installed
(by installing Cakewalk) will show up in Vegas as directX
plugins, and will control the DSPF. Can anyone confirm
details? Any other 3rd party solutions? I'm using LUI
right now, it works but I'd like a cleaner easy to use
solution.

Anyone tried Cmex's Cconsole?

Thanks,

Bruce

I have CWPA 9.0 installed with a DSPF and the AudioX drivers. I see
no DirectX plugins that allow access to the DSPF FX. The AudioX
drivers supplied allow control of the DSPF FX and routing, but they
do not implement them as plugins.

So, who started the rumor? It's true. i have used Cakewalk 4.5 through 9.0. When 7.0 and 8.0
was installed, the DSP Factory showed up as a DirectX plug in. It was
fantastic. I was able to use the full features of the card. After I
installed 9.0 I lost the DSP on the DirectX because Cakewalk uses
AudioX. I spoke to Sonic Foundry about this and they had little info.
Mainly, they said they di not support the card at the present time.

Peter,

What do you mean by "accessing DSPF FX"? I have the same setup as you
and can not use the DSP at all in Sound Forge.

Meant exactly what I said. You can't use the features of the
DSPFactory within Sound Forge. None of our application have support
for extra features of the DSPFactory.

From the decription in the earlier post, this DPSFactory plugin would
allow accessing/control of the DSPFactory's FX. I have heard of this
before, but have never seen it or had it confirmed (or denied) by
Cakewalk that there is such a DirectX plugin to control any feature
of the DSPFactory. I have asked on the DSPFactory list server and a
DSPFactory guru Gary Simmons (he wrote LUI). Gary has never seen or
heard of such a thing.

I have installed Cakewalk versions 6 - 9. Never has any of these
installed a DirectX plugin capable of controlling the DSPFactory.

I did some investigation and testing.

Cakewalk released an update/patch to CWPA 7.0 that basically
installed some DirectX plugins to control the main outs of the
DSPFactory. You must install CPWA 7.0 and then apply the DSPFactory
patch available on CW's web site.

These can only be used on the output bus as it directly controls the
output. They cannot be used to process "instream" like a normal
DirectX filter plugin.

What I discovered
- They do not work under NT
- CWPA 7 _must_ be installed. If you install a new version of CW, the
new version uninstalls them.
- They required an old version of the DSPFactory Win95 drivers.
- They crash Vegas and ACID at random points.

Bottom line. Use them at your own risk. You would be better served to
use LUI, as it gives you the same control.
