That's bit frustrating, you can win the thing but you cannot BUY it!
I and no doubt many others would love to join however how relevant would it be when we're not even in America let alone the USA?

Perhaps one other thing that could be added to this web site, a list of user groups and contact details.
Liam_Vegas wrote on 4/5/2004, 8:23 PM
I bet that even when you win it... what you are winning is a copy when it becomes available... so no need to get all bent out of shape about this "opportunity".

Jay did not mention any restriction to this being just for the USA market... and I cannot see what difference that would make exactly... but that would be a nice thing to get clarified.

Farss,

If you would just click the link to the SoCal Vegas Users Group and read the Group Description - You will find that you do not have to live in SoCal or attend our monthly meetings to participate or belong to this outstanding Group.

The SoCal Vegas Users Group is in service for ALL VEGAS USERS and not just those in California.

We offer many benefits of membership that you will not find anywhere else.

Jay, I think what your doing is great, all around. I only would say that I think it would be a great step forward for you guys to consider a name change. I do think its a bit limiting, even if it is in theory open to everyone. I will be joining, if only cuz I won't be able to afford Vegas 5 and would love a chance to win one, but unlike say the NAPP for users of Photoshop ( http://www.photoshopuser.com/ ) I doubt I will ever feel a part of. Please understand I have nothing but respect for what your doing, I'm not trying to criticize but only point out that I think that you could have the potential to have a much broader appeal ... and I hate Yahoo ... =P

Jay,
PLEASE don't get me wrong. I have the utmost admiration for people such as yourself who take the time to run these sorts of groups. I've sort of been there and done that and I know it's a bloody thankless task.
I'd add my voice to Ray's, if you do wish to appeal to a wider audience maybe a nmae change would be in order. I was also a bit put off by having to join through Yahoo, nothing against Yahoo(well so far!). I know once you start having to pay for bandwidth you've got to start asking finding funds and that can be a drag, and then you need accounts and treasures. God don't remind me....
Anyway, I've voted with my feet and joined.
What I was really getting at though was what I enjoy is meeting people, nothing beats having a face to face chat. Sure cyberspace is great, it opens opportunities for human contact that have never existed but it's an add on, not a replacement for real human interaction.

Ray and Bob,

You are not the only ones who think that we should consider changing the name of the SoCal Vegas Users Group to something more Global. Many, think that the work that our group does for the benefit of All Vegas Users is greatly appreciated.

So, let's have a contest to rename the group. I will think of a great prize to give to the winner.

And, Bob - You just took a major step forward by using your name - instead of a faceless acronym. On the SCVUG - All Members are highly encouraged to use their names and become part of the Camaraderie.

Best Regards,

Jay Mitchell

I guess I'm different, but I enjoy the idea of being a "remote" member of the SoCal group. As far as meetings are concerned it is only accessible to locals and the occasional visitor, so it really is a Southern Californian Group, with a worldwide mailing list ....

So, my suggestion for a name is ...

The Southern California Vegas Users Group

In the past, we considered a Live Streaming Broadcast of our Monthly Meetings. It would require a lot of work - but, if enough of our members around the world are interested - we could revisit the proposal.

I don't have a real opinion here, but I thought I'd let you know that every time I see that group mentioned I read The So Called Vegas Users Group first. Then something in my brain signals, and I have to read again. Name change or not - you should loose that abbrevation.

I know that Jay has the group set to go through an approval step before new members get to join... this was instituted after the group got a number of undesireable "characters" joining up and posting some <very> non-vegas related emails.

So... I suspect that Jay will get around to approving you soon. I know that he was having some difficulties with email earlier today.

As always... patience is a virtue... just hang on a little while and I am sure you'll get in. Your dealing with real people... not a machine... so sometimes we need a break.

Well... again... be nice and I am sure that the real people involved will be nice as well. The fact that you requested to join the group prior to 6am on April 6th will no doubt not be missed.

Muttley,

If for some reason that Yahoo Groups is down - you can send me a private email at Newsshooter@hotmail.com with your intentions to join. The email will have a date stamp on it.

Or, send me a message to that email address and tell me what email you used to register - and I will double check it for you.

Aha... I am glad that got clarified... I definitely misunderstood what happened. Is the <first> post moderated Jay? Maybe that is what I was thinking of.

Glad you cleared it up.

(and by the way... what that heck are the two of us doing up this late... again?... I was up till 3:30am yesterday... time for sleep I think).

I'm busy making sure that all of our members are getting the word about the contest.

Did you ever send me those emails? If so, I did not get them?

Hey Jay, not sure what the deal is but its the next day and I never got a confirmation. And the email I used is the same one I put in every post I make. =)

As I said, its cool. If it was to sign up for a free copy of Vegas 5 instead of for a chance to win I would be crying though !
