your device is offline???

hey
my camera is connected to hd via firewire and set to vhs mode. i am trying to export footage to mini-dv tape, tools->print video to tape.
and then i get the "your device is offline" message.
so vegas, apparently, is not seeing the camera. would anyone have an idea of what could be done to remedy this problem.

Is Windows seeing the cam? Check in Device Manager under Imaging Devices.

Have you set the device in Options - Prefernces- Video Device to OHCI Complient IEEE 1394/DV?

1. If you have a Firewire hard disk, disconnect that and try again.

2. If you have a Sony camera (or other camera that can "pass-through" analog DV, make sure it is set to DV-OUT, not DV-IN. If it is set to DV-IN (which is how you have to set it to capture analog video, then it will not let you print to tape, and it will give you exactly the error message you describe.

My JVC deck and Canon XL1s tend to disconnect the connection if I manually use the controls on them. If I turn them off and then back on again Vegas will "reconnect". Sometimes it will reconnect if I just click the "Preview on External Monitor" off and on.
