A procoder plug-in

It would be great if we could use some kind of "noise" modulation in most of the video fx's parameters:

when you want a glow effect to randomly blink, a title to shake, you have to set keyframes every 2 or 3!!

when you want to modulate parameters randomly, 2 controls:
speed of the modulation, and amplitude!!

the same would be great too, but from a wave signal, instead of a noise!!

Timeline scrubbing like Premiere & MediaStudio Pro!

deck control, deck control, and did I mention deck control. I have Pro Vtr which I used with Premiere. It is now a 175 dollar useless program. I talked with a pipeline guy the other day. He told me they (Sonic Foundry) were working with pipeline for a plug-in, but just abandoned it out of the blue. Let's get that back on track. The other ideas mentioned here so far are excellent suggestions.

BTW, this is a great forum.

This stemmed from one of my question so I took the initaitive to add it to request:

I'd like to have a "joystick" [ sorry BillyBoy! ] that I could use to "fly" a clip over the Preview screen, using Pan/Crop motion, while either using one of the joystick's shoot buttons OR a keyboard key - like M for Markers - to just "fire" a K/F onto the K/F T/L!
SoFO have Joystick tech support for Colour Correction and Sound Panning - why not now Pan/Crop T/Ls too?
- Grazie

Yea, a big AMEN to that one brother! This is soooo frustrating. SoFo, if you could see it in your hearts to add sync to cursor to everything in the next release that would be great.

I was trying to map two sets of generated media so that one would slowly reveal the other as they move together and not only could I not sync to the cursor (it was grayed out), but the generated media keyframe timeline was not calibrated the same as the video timeline. So while my video cursor might have been on 12:06.15, the scale on the keyframes was 00:00:00 – 00:06:00! ARGH! It was impossible to sync these up without using a calculator. I would like to see this made easier in the next release.
- JohnnyRoy

The generated media's total time doesn't automatically match its visual length on the timeline (unless you first select a timeframe -- e.g., by double-clicking on an event, and then Inserting generated media on a track above that event), and the keyframe synch button is grayed out, which causes editing errors

Request 1: Do not trim when applying velocity envelop, especially when there is no other adjent clip. The entire clip should be expanded to accomodate the new velocity. IF there is another clip inbetween, then trimming should occur up to that clip.

Request 2: Add a secondary counter
Example. I have a very long clip on the track, and I see the usual Counter which displays the current time from the cursor position, which is good and I wish to continue to use, however I would like a second counter so that I can reset to 0 and move the cursor on the track to another point and calculate the time.
I know I can calculate the time by simply subtracting the two points, but it would be soo mush easier if I just had that second counter.

Request 3: Auto-magically find the peaks in audio and add clips. This will shock and awe the industry.

Request 4. Have the guys at Sonicfoundry take 2 hour lunches on Fridays. Excellent work guys! Simply amazing!!

Yes, nested timelines sounds like a nice feature.

How does it behave in FCP and Edition?
How complicated can the nested timeline be?
Does it require rendering?
How do you think it would effect playback if you had nested levels having rendered priorities? for instance, if something in the sub-timeline had to be rendered before the final render for playback? Like a dissolve over a dissolv, to use a simple case?

One of the things I wonder is whether nested timelines kills the playback features of Vegas?

Nat wrote on 6/9/2003, 11:12 AM
Well, it would only be a visual aid. Moving a single block of events is simpler than having to select multiple events and move them. It wouldn't change the playback...

1. Built in EDL Import/Export that supports formats such as CMX and Grass Valley, OMF... whatever. Vegas IMHO is "THE" DV finishing tool, but if it were on offline editor as well, I think it would be huge. Why couldn't a film be cut in Vegas. Final Cut Pro got a lot of press because it was a great new tool for independent and low budget filmmakers. If it was possible to generate a good EDL in Vegas, one could cut (Vegas), mix (Sound Forge/Vegas), and compose (Acid) an entire project, be it Film, HD, DigiBeta, Beta, Super8, etc. all within these 3 programs.

2. Hardware Support (BlueFish, Pinnacle, Matrox)

3. Subclips

4. Better titles

5. Customizable windows. Since Vegas 2, I've always wanted to show just the timeline (from top to bottom) on one monitor, and all of the other windows on the second monitor.

I think if there were a few more "Professional" features like these, Vegas would blow up. We already have a fast, stable, easy to use NLE... why not try to make it a standard in the industry. Here in NYC, people are always looking for Final Cut editors. I've used FCP, and it has nothing on Vegas except for these professional functions.

Doesn't Title Deko export to the .TGA format? Can't you just use a .TGA graphics file in Vegas?

1. Scale Indicator for timeline!

Am I the only one who gets confused about what the tic marks on the timeline are showing? Am I looking at minutes or seconds? Currently have to zoom in/out on timeline to figure out where I am.

2. Subclips!

Thanks SoFo for a great tool!

Cheers,

Wow Squisite are my 'evil twin'? LOL. You made almost the exact same post I made a few days ago. Good to know I am not the only person who wants these things.
StormMarc wrote on 6/9/2003, 4:35 PM
Oh yeah -I would like to be able to actively see my transition length between two clips like I can in premiere. It would be nice to see this at the bottom of the timeline but I would be happy if it was in the edit details. Currently I have to double click the transition to read the selection length then drag the selection to my desired length, then drag the transition to match -and that is more steps than it needs to be.

Sonic Foundry Rocks!

1) Scrubbing like in other NLE's (with audio, of course)(just drag the mouse).

2) Opacity/Volume envelopes per clip - not per track.

3) Big cheer for those who already mentioned better titling capabilities (Boris is coming, but hey, who can afford that?).

4) Better organization of bins (would like to be able to see the Thumbs and
still organize them by Result Time, Title, etc)(would also like to see the
Comments on the timeline or similar).

5) Customizable bezier curves! (for goodness sake!)

6) Realtime hardware (Matrox, Canopus, Avid, NewTek, etc) (Instead of Speed
Razor being supported by Newtek, I'd love it if Vegas was the realtime
solution for that hardware, but that's just me.)

7) Customizable windows (zoom level, duel monitors, etc).

The list of things we'd all like to see changed/added here is pretty large,
but I would really like to say that V4.c is a great product. As long as
development continues, Vegas will be unstoppable and more than a voice to be
reckoned with. Good job, Sonic Foundry! (Are they watching this thread? or
are we all just dreaming bigtime?)
BillyBoy wrote on 6/9/2003, 9:12 PM
One BIG improvement would be irregular shape masks with bezier curve control so you could mask any object(s) and follow it changing the bezier at key frames. Could work similar to Photoshop's Magentic pen.

Another is a pause control so you could suspend rendering on those really big projects and Vegas would automatically resume.

Another thing that kind of surprises me as missing is a grid system for the FX filters that need them, example Color Curves so you can more precisely set points.
StormMarc wrote on 6/10/2003, 12:31 AM
Billyboy - yes I totally agree -- irregular masks would be incredible. I would also like to be able to work on the effects in the preview window like in AE.

If anyone can do it SF can. I'm am amazed at how far they have come with Vegas and so quickly. Adobe needs to take software development lessons from them.

Hello all,

Here is my big wish :

I would like a new kind of track caled input envelope. This traks will just handle envelope clips. Wich are just array of values changing trough time.
Create such a track, give it a name (let say, sharpness) , then draw your envelope (value from 0 to 100%).
Then use its value for any parameter of any effect anywhere. With suche a thing we will be able to create an envelope for the effect "sharpness" or any one else in 2 clicks.

You like it ? wait...

This feature become a killer with this :
- recording envelopes live (with a device like joystick, midi keyboard, keyboard, mouse...) press record, the video starts, move the device, it records movement.
- generate input envelope from the sound (bass detection => shakes the image)
- generate input envelope from an image analyser (% of blue color for example)
- import input envelope from other software (motion detection software,...)
- generate envelope with scripting (maths).
- use of simple maths formulas when using the envelope (ie: blur horizontal = InputEnvelopeBlurAmout, blur vertical =InputEnvelopeBlurAmout/2)

All this could be implemented very easely. It's very user firendly. It will make Vegas become the Reason (killer music software) of vidéo. This feature would look like "motion capture" in 3DS Max 5 but easier to use.

It would also be nice to have a selection hide feature. A kind of horizontal directory tree with collapse/expand. So we could work on big projects and hide a part of it to show only the section we are currently working on. Each collapsed scene will be locked. And When the cursor is set somewhere, only the layers used in this section are shown.
This Directories tree would be dockable or draggable to be shown vertically on another screen.

I have lot of other Ideas but I have to work now ;)

Master BIN accessible by all projects. I'd like to be able to use clips in different projects without having to create bins in each project that will use a group of clips...

If I have BIN 1 & BIN2 in Project 1 .... BIN3 & BIN4 in Project 2

I want to be able to see what is in BIN2 & BIN4 inside of Project 3 without having to re-create them.

Yes that’s true for static text but it doesn’t help you with credit rolls and crawls.

> (Boris is coming, but hey, who can afford that?).

I sent an email to Boris and they plan to add Vegas plugins to their entire line including Boris FX and Graffiti, which are cheaper ($599) but still expensive. I'm waiting for the Boris Factory ($99) plugin.

I vote for that one. It would be awesome to be able to keyframe an irregular mask.

I vote for complete Parhelia utility, and pair that with the ability to expand the time line to FILLL one whole monitor with JUST the Timeline (current top half of the screen), while moving everything else to the second monitor. And, of course, both 1394a&b and regular Parhelia output to the regular TV monitor.

Then, top it off titling BETTER than RED 3GL and Title Deko, with buffer room in the whole program's edit capability, say 3072 x 2048 pixel editing capability, so when reduced or cropped you don't actually lose anything below the full 1920 x 1080i resolution of true HD. (OK, I'l settle for just 2048 x 1280, if I must. At least that will keep SoFo in time with the new 4K camcorders.)

Please!

Easier menu access. How? If anyone has used Maya for eigther SGI, Mac, or PC, you know that you can remove the menu from the program (the FILE, EDIT, etc. and the Icons below them) and have a key bring the menu up wherever your mouse pointer is! Saves lots of time!

Also, when you have media missing from a VEG file, instead of Vegas offering to eigther replace or leave empty events on timeline, add one for delete from media pool/timeline.
