Z1 is Really Forgiving

Shot a parade today into the morning sun about 10:00 am. With the peoples shadows aiming toward the camera all of the faces came out just fine. The camera was in full auto. The viewfinder (eyepiece) was not good as the faces were black so I figured the worst but got really surprised when everthing appeared as seen with the naked eye. As I said before this is the most forgiving camera I have ever used.

I will second the experience of the Z1 recording looking better than the viewfinder. I recently shot quite a bit of run n' gun, available light which was then upcoded to HDCAM for finish - not in Vegas but Avid DS. I was wowed when I saw the footage on the HD monitor. I also grabbed a quick shot with an HC1 in a high-contrast situation which turned out a lot better than it looked in the VF.

I agree outdoors it is totally amazing on auto, my daughter helped me with a last minute shoot as a second cam, on full auto including focus the sucker locks in and makes some darn good shots, by the way my daughter is a pharmacist and never held the camera before or any 3chip cam.

I love my A1U too....
and was really surprised at crystal clear results when shooting a yacht race about a mile offshore with a fog bank looming in the background and the sails highlighted by the setting sun. They just jump out at you even though far away and with fading sunlight....
Proving I don't have to get cold or wet to get some great footage...

Often my FX1 in auto gives better footage than my fiddling around in manual. Also the aperture priority mode is great for keeping the DOF where you want it and its just a press of one button to switch back to manual. My only problem is that in manual mode I never quite know at what level to set the zebras.
