zoom edit tool issues

Hi, I've been trying to get a grip on vegas, back and forth between videos and manual. One of my issues I am having is with the zoom edit tool in video event effects. I zoom in but where is the zoom out? Is there no way to make the zoom in tool the zoom out tool? I see the zoom under workspace, is that the only way to zoom back out?
thanks sal

To zoom in and out of the timeline, use the mouse wheel.

You can also click on the + and - symbols at the bottom right, or click and drag one edge of the left/right scroll bar.

Hold down the mouse wheel and drag the mouse left or right to move left/right along the timeline.

You can also use the Up and Down arrows to zoom in and out. The fociu of the zoom will be centered over the current cursor position.

Gentlemen please. I am in *video event FX window from event pan/crop. Click on the event edit tool and expand some text etc. there is no minus to zoom back out, just a plus on the cursor.
thanks sal

Hi,

I'm not quite following you.

If you are using the event pan crop tool (video FX), then there are a couple of different options for zooming in/out on your project.

You can use the buttons on the LHS ("Lock aspect ratio" and "size about centre") in conjunction with dragging the nodes on the frame alongside to zoom into or out of the video (e.g cropping the picture).

Alternatively, within this window you are provided with a drop down menu under the title:"Workstation" that allows you to "scale your view" of the project workspace. This is very useful if for instance you want still images to start offscreen and move across the video in their entirety, but it's really a bit like moving a camera further away or closer to an object, it doesn't change the size of teh video, it simply changes your view of it.

If you wish to zoom into the timeline (i.e to inspect say a specific portion of the video on say a frame by frame view, or to see a fade or cut in great detail), then the information provided by our colleagues in response to your post has already addressed the options of zooming using your mouse wheel or the slider immediately below the timeline.

Trust this helps.

Re-reading your post. I think that you might be approaching some parts of your project in an unusual fashion.

If I understand you correctly, you seem to be looking to use the "video FX pan-crop" tool to resize text. I can see how this might work, but it is an unusual approach. If you are looking to resize text, you have a couple of more efficient options:

Vegas Pro includes a number of text editors, all of which offer a great degree of flexibility for inserting, positioning and resizing text. The easiest to use is the "Legacy text", followed by "Text and titles". Other options include Pro Type Titler (PTT) and the New Blue Plug in. Alternatively, in many cases you might choose to develop still images with text in a photo editor (e.g Photoshop and include into the project.

Maybe I misunderstood, however, if you are looking to use pan-crop to "resize" text, then maybe there are more efficient workflows that might give you a better result, quicker.

apologies, if I misunderstood your post.

In Video Event FX...

OK, I *think* I can replicate what you are seeing, although I can't be certain; I appreciate that it can be difficult to describe, especially when the terminology is new / you are used to a different NLE.

However, my solution will still work for you: to zoom out so that you can see the boundary of the text, scroll the mouse wheel downwards. If you have no mouse wheel, cluck the magnifying glass from the column of tool on the left hand side of the Pan/Crop window and click the right (as opposed to left) mouse button. This will zoom you back you is 'jumps'.

Hope that helps.

Hi. Thanks again for the responses. I do have a scroll wheel on the mouse, I was just wondering how to click on the text and make it go smaller, seeing as I can click on the text using the magnifying glass to zoom in. I am just trying to learn the different tools.
Right clicking to zoom out answered my question.
I was looking for some kind of drop-down arrow to select it to zoom out.
I am not trying to use this to resize text, l'm just tooling around in vegas to learn it. Pardon the pun if it is one,
Thanks all

Glad you have it sorted.

Having toyed with Premier Pro and After Effects (more AE then PPro), the Adobe way of positioning and resizing is much more intuitive than the Vegas way.

When I first moved to Vegas, I found some editing tasks awkward (can't recall which), but with time they became 2nd nature.

And good for you for 'tooling' around and learning.

Some of the best things I have learned have come from mashing the wrong key or an icon I didn't intend to click. Sometimes the result is good, sometimes not so much.

Safer doing this on a computer than in a car.
