Zooming in on still & not getting black borders?

Videot wrote on 8/15/2004, 1:34 AM
I have a high res upright still that measures 2364 x 3054 pixels & I wish to use keyframing to zoom in have the view track from top to bottom. I've imported it into Vegas & dropped it on the timeline & it previews with a large black border on each side. The pan crop tool allows me to zoom in OK but I still have the black borders. How do I get to zoom in without the black border? Do I have to do something like pasting this picture onto an even larger black background that's in the 4 x 3 ratio to be able to zoom in without having the black borders? I'm working using PAL settings

You need to lock the aspect ratio to the target. Right click and select "Match target aspect".

Bob is right, but the term is "Match output aspect".

Tors,
thanks! I usually check before posting but PC was in the middle of long capture.

Bob.

Your source image was a bit more square than 4x3. By contrast, DV is slightly wider than 4x3.

There's also a script available that will do it for all images currently on the timeline. That way you don't have to do it individually for each image.

You say to right click & select 'match output aspect.' I double click the still to select the event & then right click to bring up the shortcut menu but I'm not offered the option 'match output aspect'. Right clicking also produces the option under swithes to lock & 'maintain aspect ratio. If I go down to the clips properties I get the option to 'maintain aspect ratio' which is differant from what you are suggesting. Even selecting this doesn't get what I want. Is there some other setting under preferances etc that should also be checked? It seems that I still have a little bit of information missing.

Hi Videot,

The option you're looking for is in the right-click context menu within the Pan & Crop window, not the event itself on the timeline. This wasn't made clear in the original response.

Thanks for that. I knew that it had to be something simply that I was missing.
