  Reyfox & mark-y: Thank you for the replies. I accomplished what I needed to with those .MTS files (without grief) and am using a different camera now that produces .mp4. The 8000 Hz sample rate (or whatever, please pardon any incorrect jargon)

  @OhMyGosh From memory your Vegas MS16 Platinum is trying to phone home to unlock the required codec. It could be a server problem. What exactly does the failure message say? You probably need to contact Vegas Support to resolve the problem.
