Personally what i do now Grazie, i just purchase stock PC or Laptop from an electronic outlet, and then do my personal configurations. (Stress free).

@Steve_Rhoden Although stock PCs often have the CPU & GPU you want in the touted "specs", they often skimp on motherboard expandability, power supplies, cooling, etc... For instance, @JaredF posted the specs for his Dell XPS SE which comes with an Intel 11700K & highly sought-after Nvidia 3060 Ti, both of which are GREAT for running Vegas. HOWEVER, the Dell XPS only comes with (1) M.2 for the OS, (2) 2.5" and (1) 3.5" available bays/SATA ports for internal storage. The (1) x16 PCIe is for the GPU, leaving you a PCIe x1 and PCIe x4 for internal expansion and (1) USB-C and (7) USB 3.1 ports for external expansion. There is also a big discussion about Dell skimping-out on adequate cooling, so you have to modify the CPU cooler so your PC does not throttle-down during long renders...

When the price was right, people bought the XPS 8940's with the Nvidia 3xxx GPU, pulled the GPU, and now they are selling it with internal iGPU video only on eBay for whatever they can fetch vs. trying to find a stand-alone GPU... Sooo.... If you really want a premade system, you might be able to find a good deal on one with the PCIe GPU pulled, get-by with the iGPU for now, and then add a PCIe GPU if/when the prices drop... I got a Nvidia 3060 Ti for $400 USD by watching Best Buy's website around noon ET here in the US...

Hi Gang!

I’ve been very, very quiet about my MONSTA! Why? Here’s the top level numbers:

1 - Since January it’s been sent back 6 times.

2 - They’ve had MONSTA! for 127 days, me, 46 days. The shortest time I had it was for 2 days.

3 - This last return period spans June and July.

4 - The HDDs vanishing has been reproed and has resulted in ALL the components being replaced at once.

5 - It is now receiving massive testing: Cold Boots; restarts and on all occasions it’s come through.

I shall have it back Friday and be testing from then. This has been a horrid experience and I’m resigned to sending it come next week for the 7th time. The Company has been very supportive and attentive. I’m in their hands, but this HDDs dropout has truly stumped them, well, I’ve not been told why. Nobody in the Company has come across this before.

Listen, if Grazie can find a Bug, he will, and now it’s been extended to Systems too! 😉

Believe it. It has been a wrench away from what I want to do, creatively, technically Bug Stompin’ and a serious diversion from LockDown London (LDL). I could go on... but I won’t.

@Grazie Seriously not cool at all. There is a known issue with some Crucial ssd's that disappear after 60 minutes of uptime, hard reboot gives you another 60 minutes. This happens after 5184 hours of usage. Firmware update should fix it. I’ve no idea what type of discs u have though.

@Grazie Ok. I have to say, I really think, given you have been with this company for many years, and been a loyal customer, they should cut their losses, keep your machine and give you a completely new PC with equivalent specifications.

+1
I think you've given them enough chances to fix your PC.

I also remember very well that you took every possible precaution before you bought it to get a really, really good MONSTA - and then this!
It's a shame.

3POINT schrieb am 15.07.2021 um 05:33 Uhr

Unbelievable this story. You better call your MONSTA , DISASTA instead.

Presuming the problem is not sitting in front of the computer (just kidding), I would also go for @JN- advice "take the money and run" to the next computer store and buy an on stock high end PC and have fun with Vegas again.

Really unbelievable this story.

Reyfox schrieb am 15.07.2021 um 11:33 Uhr

Many moons ago, I did custom computer builds for businesses and others. I've had in the hundreds I've built (all different types of configs) only one that caused me grief. Swapping out the supplied CPU cooler for an aftermarket one solved the problem.

Honestly, @Grazie exhibited a lot of patience in this. More than what I would have. I would still be interested in what they found out was the cause of all this.

@Reyfox - Patience I’ve had to have. There is cover for eventualities. I’m in their hands, and I’ve told them. They have been thorough and stood by me all the way. I can’t asked any more

You’d be interested? So would I. I’ve had chums from around the Planet trying to fathom this one out. I’ve had a chum who build his own Game PCs. Why should four HDDs go AWOL when the System is idle? The SSDs remain connected. Over the months all the parts have been test-bedded separately and then combined only to have the same error picked up at QC and handed back to the Chief engineer. There has been a heap of people-hours poured into this system.

UPDATE: I spoke with them this morning and it’s gone through QC and is being dispatched back to me for tomorrow. I’ve already told them to expect a call from me to come collected it for the 7th time. I truly hope this won’t be the case.

I had a fall early afternoon on Monday when going out for a walk. My L foot rolled over something like a small pine cone and, bang, I was horizontal on the ground (concrete). After my body hit the ground, it was to me slow-motion as my L temple hit the ground. Fortunately no damage - and luckily I already had an appointment with my doctor the next day.

What a great year 2021 has turned out to be for everyone even after the less than brilliant 2020. And in around 5 minutes Melbourne enters its 5th lockdown.

@Grazie the motherboard controls/connects everything. Like everyone here, I've never heard of this happening in the almost 30 years of building PC's. Nothing is as cost effective for storage as mechanical drives. In my computer, I have NVME, SSD, and mechanical drives all working together. You can do all your work on SSD's and then when rendered, store your finished work on a mechanical.

But since everything is suppose to be good now, I would not "tip toe" around anything. Push the PC beyond it's limits to see if it fails.
