Updated threads appear in bold to me in FF, Chrome & IE. They have an already viewed link color but that makes sense: it's taking me to the first post in the thread and I already clicked that link.

It's true that the font of updated thread links - while remaining magenta (i.e. read) forever - are bolded out, but:

- this is not what we're used to in other forums, where after updating the thread its link reverts to bold blue

- whether the font is bold or not seems to only depend on time (i.e. older links stop displaying bolded out after some time)
- even if a thread has NOT been updated after my last visiting it, the link is still bolded out for some time

All in all, the main information (whether there is a new post or not in a thread) conveyed by the widespread convention has been lost with the current scheme...

It's interesting that this is the behavior that was requested by a few forum participants a couple of weeks ago. They were wondering why when they made a post in a thread it showed as "updated", even though it hadn't changed since their post. Of course, the reason is because their new post was the update.

I find the old way more convenient.

The only time a read thread doesn't update, from bold blue to bold magenta is when clicking the latest post in a thread (the date link on screen left). I did notice SCS changed the favicon.
Currently using Firefox 36; behavior is the same on all my PCs. (XP, Vista and 7) .. Don't know about a smart phone.. I'm probably the only person in the world who doesn't have one

No, you're not. My company gave me one and I dropped it and broke it within the first month. Since I broke it on a Saturday, I went and bought a burner phone with a SIM card just so I could still receive SMS TXT messages which are the only reason for having the phone at all. That was five years ago and I still use a $29 Blu Tank.

When my phone dings it means something. I'm not bothered with random corporate emails 24 hrs per day. When I retire on May 8, I'm likely not to have a phone at all.

I have the same problem on my work and home computers under Firefox and Chrome.
Another annoying thing is that I have to log in constantly. I log in at the start of the day and all is well. Time goes by, I click on a thread, read it, click "back to Vegas Pro - Video" and I'm logged out :(

Same problem with links FF 36.0.1 but at least I stay logged in.

Same here. FF 36.0.1. For maybe the last couple of weeks. Makes things difficult to track.

Looks like an error in the site's CSS.

Folks, this is on SCS server - when this site went down for many hours a couple of weeks ago - it was brought back in this state. Has not been corrected as yet.

I must be the only who who finds bold vs non-bold painfully obvious on this forum and thus, have no issue with seeing when there's a new post. :)

HTML code sent to a browser blind cannot make a text feature of bold vs non-bold really stand-out - because your local text setting/dpi is modifying display on the client.
Code would have to be written to force a font-change - which is something you really don't want to do inside a text passage that has variable value.

COLOR change is a more reliable programmable feature from browser to browser - client to client.

Previously, the link was formatted differently and changed when the number of posts changed. Therefore it would turn "not read" again. Now the "change" is gone so the link does not change which is why it now shows you have previously accessed that link.

Just look for the "bold" ones and that should, generally, give you the threads with new entries.

And even though it doesn't show as "unread", I think it does move to the top of the list.

Like I said text bold is a variable that will not be controlled by code but by the client - reason being that difference between bold and not bold is variable based on text font type.

Color change can be controlled and it is now working in Firefox today.

I logged in to this forum via IE & Chrome (normally use FireFox). non-new threads were non-bold, new ones were bold. Very easy to tell apart. All three have different font settings, all three very obvious.

Don't think so. Mine is working fine (FF 36.01).
I go from blue to purple when I click on a link as normal. I'm pretty sure this is internal to the browser.

Well, yes and no. Normally the browser decides how to highlight visited links. However, there are CSS commands that the web site can use to override the browser's behavior.

Also note that SCS used to change the links after each posting by including a number of replies as a parameter. This mean that every time a thread was replied to the link changed and would no longer be a visited link. This doesn't seem to be happening anymore.
