Vegas Pro and Intels new ARC Graphics hardware

ashley schrieb am 01.11.2022 um 19:32 Uhr

Hi, i am still using Vegas Pro 13 (not broken, didnt fix it). I see Intel are bringing out there new ARC Graphics hardware, however to get full use the software vendor (in most cases that games) need to write the software taking advantage of the ARC architecture, so will Vegas Pro be supporting Intel ARC graphics hardware, if so when?

Many Thanks

Vegas 13 doesn't use GPU decoding or encoding. 20 should use Arc fully with maturity of Intel drivers the main question.

My version 13 uses the nVidia GPU, not sure if its optimized, however the Intel drivers arnt enough, the software has to be augmented to use the ARC engine fully (we are a member of the Intel Partner Alliance, ive just had training on this).

I cant find anyway to ask the vendor this directly, any messages we have sent in the past have never been answered !

13 doesn't do much with the NVIDIA GPU- some timeline performance gains but no decoding/encoding.

VP 20 as is does work with the a380 at the least: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vegas-likes-the-intel-arc-a380--137010/

Looks promising, ARC is a complete hardware generation, so the A380 is just slower, we are looking at the A770 16Gb, although only half the speed of the nVidia A4000 we would normally buy, the heat discerption is high, i am hoping thats as nVidia has had decades of experience over Intel

If you know anyone with this card have them do a Vegas benchmark so we can compare: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1Exbi4K3hbxw6snJuisR1ble-0tCPVNcIcNnx0BAtSIM/

Techgage has some reports on ARC here: https://techgage.com/article/intel-arc-a750-a770-workstation-review/

@ashley Vegas doesn't yet have any Arc-specific support like hyper, vp9, or av1 qsv rendering. No word yet on if or when that might come from Magix... the Voukoder Arc beta plugin had it briefly.

My earliest vp with qsv checkboxes in general preferences is vp16. Since then Vegas definitely uses my Arc a380 for Magix qsv avc/hevc decoding/rendering as does the latest Voukoder beta plugin for rendering.

Been a while but my recollection is that vp13 gpu support consisted of using OpenCL in the Sony avc/mvc rendering template as one of the template drop-down options. To get the gpu drop-down options to show, I think you also need to check the box to allow legacy gpu rendering in general preferences. The Sony avc rendering template also has a Check GPU button on the system tab to verify OpenCL detection.

Depending on the savings we may upgrade to Vegas Pro 20, ive yet to find any price breaks for this, we dont really need DVD architect anymore though.

Judging by how much power Intel are investing in there ARC hardware and how many games are moving to it and its price point i can see many games going that way, this is why we are looking at it instead of a nVidia (Quadro) A4000 with 16Gb of RAM, that card clearly will be fast for a year until software catches up with Intel

There are price breaks at the moment- did you see the Black Friday sale post? https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vegas-20-black-weeks-offers--137801/

Vegas Creative Software and Intel appear to have a close relationship. Personally I decided to go the NVIDIA GPU route as it's a known quantity and pair it with an Intel iGPU, which works well in Vegas.

At the moment, NewEgg is only shipping the 16gb Intel dual-fan version of the a770. Still waiting on the ASRock 8gb 3-fan version with the higher clock.

This all looks like "rent-ware", they make it super hard to find the purchase item (just found it)

You click and select either upgrade (if you ever had a perpetual license) or new license if you are new to Vegas or only had a subscription.

We found the Canada site, totally different layout here as they cant go hiding stuff liek that, was a huge box making it real easy to see new install and upgrades, we was able to do an upgrade, real cheap ($200 / CA$250) for Vegas POST, so we did that, will be installed on my new PC that will likely have the Intel ARC video card in it.

US landing page is pretty clear, too: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/us/sale/

I think that's a good price for what it is, so enjoy! Let us know how it works with the ARC card.

We sold the card, it was crashing on software that required openGL, back to an nVidia Quadro P2000, no more crashes, so cant send feedback.
