Correction. I can render Nvenc AV1 to 10 bit 420.

@Howard-Vigorita Are you using the free version of Resolve, I think I always assumed you had studio like a few others here, I wonder if your lower quality encoding results are somehow the cause of software decoding? But interestingly I did see that

    "Btw, can Amd render 10-bit av1?" From May 2024 ffmpeg build ... "encoder-AV1-amf.txt. ... "Supported pixel formats: nv12 yuv420p d3d11 dxva2_vld" Doesn't appear to, but I haven't checked the most recent build.

RE: VEGAS PRO 22 HAVE THE WORST AV1 DECODING: CHROMA SUBSAMPLING 4:1:0
Great points, good to understand limitations of such metrics in mind. It sounds like on your and UltraVista's system VEGAS may be using the same AV1 decoder despite user settings. MxCompound seems to be able to call upon multiple GPU and software

VEGAS PRO 22 HAVE THE WORST AV1 DECODING: CHROMA SUBSAMPLING 4:1:0
Magix Vegas Pro 22 has a big serious problem: It decode videos with AV1 codec with Chroma Subsampling 4:2:0 as if it had Chroma Subsampling 4:1:0 It is imperative that the Vegas Pro developers know about this. This issue simply ruins the work of

RE: Question: 8 vs 10-bit HEVC Renders?
Do we get a 10-bits-per-pixel option in AV1 in the Vegas beta? I don't see that in the current build of VP22. Here's more (from ChatGPT) on the subject: https://chatgpt.com/share/67f13b63-b86c-8002-a1e9-bf1ec14f2785

Yes, VEGAS does override user choices at times, though I would think it would show up under decoding activity. Sorry about the poor instructions for finding the decoder. While holding down shift, right-click on media, go to properties, click on

Thanks Bruce, I am using MP4 AV1 (replaces H265). I am aware that H266 is starting to make an appearance but is much more intensive to encode and decode. I take your point about lossless ProRes, I must see what file size I get with it.

I usually upload song-renders to YouTube made with MainConcept 4k hevc-vbr 28/56mbps 10-bit. Would really love to switch to Nvenc Av1. Voukoder and Resolve seem stuck in a similar 4k quality rut... odd that they both use ffmpeg7 libs and come

Hello, RogerS. Thank you very much for analyzing and responding, and so quickly.I do use an NVidia GTX 1050 ti. I did an AV1 decoding test in Vegas Pro 22 with GPU on and GPU off, and there really is a difference, I compared it with zoom in Affinity

What about saving a single frame with the screenshot feature or rendering an image sequence to avoid the vagaries of video compression and playback. Judging still images is not dependent on resolution, sync, etc. I am starting to wonder if these

@Former user I used the dropdown to change the Copy engine display in task manager to Video Encode 1 to see activity on both 4090 encode engines. Looks like this while rendering Nvenc Av 1 on Voukoder with decoding on the 6900xt... I did that

Meant to confirm earlier that all 3 AV1 encodes for Nvenc, Intel and AMD can output 10 bit 420, not just Nvidia.

Thanks Howard, in my clips I have been trying out I have my grandson running across a sandy beach towards the sea and back. With Magix AV1 I see some artifacts in the rendering of the sand which is not present in the Voukoder H264 and Voukoder AV1

Special reason for screenrecording gameplay with AV1? I think there're more suitable and easier editable codecs for that purpose. I do it becouse for some MAGIcal reason, every other codec lowers my fps in games alot, and causes stutters. Even

On my Intel 11900k system, vp22 av1 decoding came in a smidgen better than hevc which surprised me. Last time I did this in the early days of vp21 it came out the other way, as I recall. I'm using the lossless hevc clip linked in my signature as the

    RE: My Journey To AV1
P.S. Sure AV1 is more modern, with more features and so provides better quality. I'm not arguing that.  To me it's not better quality, but just same quality at lower bitrates/smaller filesizes. It's all about keeping the quality of the original

@johnny-s It's always bugged me that my 6900xt and earlier can only render 8-bit... another plus for the 7000-series. Are av1 and hevc both 10-bit now?
