RE: Audio hardware you use.
Presonus Firebox (Firewire interface) FireBox ASIO x64 Driver, apparently I also have a BlackMagic Intensity Pro PCIe card for preview output (when it isn't crashing Vegas) and that uses a Blackmagic ASIO driver I think.

RE: Working with CinemaDNG and ProRes 4K files
You can handle CinemaDNG files using Blackmagic's Resolve, available as a free download. It is also the best colour correction program around, so you can kill two birds with the one stone.

RE: Working with CinemaDNG and ProRes 4K files
CinemaDNG -> NO. ProRes in MOV files -> Yes. You need Quicktime installed. Due to how Vegas interfaces with Quicktime you will have a limit of about ProRes 50 files open in a project. You will know when step beyond the limit. Vegas will

RE: push the envelope, bleed on the edge.
In BlackMagic Design and AJA products - you do have hardware passing 10bit precision - but not creating it. It's likely that with a good monitor you are able to see some improvement over not using this preference setting. This means the hardware is

RE: push the envelope, bleed on the edge.
This topic just made me think of something I hadn't considered in ages... I have an AJA Kona card that I use for preview to both a large LCD and a 20" CRT monitor. In Vegas' preview device preferences where the card's option are shown there is a

RE: push the envelope, bleed on the edge.
color depth = 8 bits per channel - x 3 = 24 bits of display on a typical monitor. In fact the video card can display your transparency files which carry the xtra 8 bits in that alpha channel. This is a typical monitor that 99% of us all

RE: push the envelope, bleed on the edge.
You can be using 10bit YUV for digital intermediates - but the question for you does it maintain any real increased precision over the source. The answer would be no for an 8bit source - but then a 10bit source - what about that? Well, absence any

RE: push the envelope, bleed on the edge.
Rendering Cineform as an output codec (for digital intermediate - its not a distributed file type) will give you essentially a 9bit result out of Vegas - Of course people call it 10bit - but it is not quite true in Vegas case. To get around the

RE: push the envelope, bleed on the edge.
Just like I said, all processing of Vegas timeline will utlimately net 8 bit. You can shove in more, you can manipulate more in some digital intermediates and 32bit activity - but your outcome always in the distribution/preview is utimately 8bit.

RE: Using Blackmagic Design Decklink Mini Monitor card
I just bought the Decklink mini monitor, can't get it to work with Vegas 12 or 13. Sent an email to BlackMagic, and posted on their forum, but no response yet. Works fine with BM's Media Express. On a similar system we have, an older Intensity Pro

RE: AJA Kona LHi External SDI Preview with Vegas 13
Thank for the suggestions. Changed existing AJA Win Drivers 10.4.0-x64 to Sony suggested AJA Win Drivers 10.1.0-x64. The Sony recommended AJA 10.1.0 still does not pass through correct SDI 1080 video to our Panasonic BT-LH2170P monitor. This is

Indeed good points. I guess IBC this year will reveal more as well. At this moment the C100 is on top of my list (it already was before I heard about Ursa). I was planning to purchase it together with the Atomos Ninja Blade. That will probably

RE: OT: new camera from Blackmagic Design
I have some money put aside to look at 4K in the future, but I will be waiting to see what surfaces in the next year or so. There is a great temptation to 'gear whore' and buy the latest and greatest, but the satisfaction is short-lived. A month

RE: OT: new camera from Blackmagic Design
I have seen some really spectacular footage from both cameras, but in the end it comes down to why you want 4K? As there is almost zero demand for 4K release, the majority will be using it to give themselves room to move and re-frame in post, or

RE: OT: new camera from Blackmagic Design
I think the most complete camera is the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera. It has the least issues, is the lowest cost, and needs the least spent on it to shoot pictures with. As there is almost no demand for 4K release at present, the only thing a
