RE: what video capture card to buy to record from DVR?
You may be going places you really don't want to go. Consider the outputs of your chosen broadcast receiver device. 1) You are probably correct the HDMI will have protect. a no go 2) You cannot really record component without getting overly complex.

RE: Using XML Export in Vegas Question
For anyone that cares: I've posted a script here that infers the timecode from Blackmagic Cinema Camera files and sets the custom timecode in VP12 to the correct timecode. It seems to work for both QuickTime (DNxHD) files from the camera and

Script to add timecode to (some) QuickTime files
The purpose of this post is twofold: 1. To provide a script that solves a problem (that admittedly probably plagues only a few people). Code is below. 2. To ask for help in accessing QuickTime from within a script (to get a QuickTime timecode from

RE: XML and EDL concerns summary database
The following post goes into some depth about handling the new BlackMagic Design camera files and use of Cineform for transcode. Transcoding to a format that an NLE should read and write is an important step to crossing and roundripping in different

RE: Using XML Export in Vegas Question
JasonAtl, I appreciate very much that you now have explained your process flow, and as you suggest, this is a very well understood application (at least in theory). There has been a lot of discussion among editors about how to deal with BlackMagic's

RE: 8 bit vs 32 bit image sequence: major differences
Bob - If ProRes is 8 bit, then that is the solution. But the file reports as 1920x1080x24, Apple ProRes 4444. Light bulb moment - does Vegas 8 bit mean 8 bits PER CHANNEL (3 channels), equaling 24 bit in total? musicvid - I know what you mean re:

RE: Risky to install Vegas 12 when Vegas 10 works?
The risk you run comes from incompatible hardware and its drivers interacting with the diff versions of Vegas. The best example is trying to operate an advanced video card setup with GPU set to on. But really there are many other scenarios, from

RE: Black Magic Decklink & VP12
You may not agree with it, or particularly like it, but the unstated policy of BlackMagic design and development - if the parties do not get together (i.e., in this case SCS and Blackmagic,) to discuss and work on continued development plans - then

RE: Black Magic Decklink & VP12
Has anyone else noticed that in Blackmagic's Decklink & Intensity spec pages they only claim compatibility with Vegas 9? During the last several years they have kept-up with other NLE updates, like CS6, but no mention of Vegas 10, 11, or 12

Quality issues working with DVD footage
I do a reasonable amount of showreel compilations - actors/musicians/dancers supplying footage of past performances on DVD, which I then capture and compile. My experience is that it is very difficult to get the footage looking good - interlacing

The HD spark will work with Grass Valleys Edius or Neo only. For Vegas one can use the Intensity Pro of Blackmagic.

I have not had any problems with SSD drives in my Hyperdeck. BlackMagic is very specific about which SSD drives are compatible (ie fast enough for uncompressed). I suspect some are trying drives which are not on approved list and are having
