Peter, Vegas has had an ongoing habit of not actually completely closing when you close it. It doesn't always seem to happen...the problem took about a month to manifest itself again after a fresh OS and Vegas installation.
Anyway, before trying to install 10e, open task manager and make sure the Vegas process isn't still running. In my case I think it can hang there in memory for 20 minutes or more. Maybe this is what was interfering with your update.
I can confirm that my LG Blu-ray player is no longer seen as well since upgrading to 10.0e. So it's a reproducible bug for those it affects.
Mini-Rant: As much as I love the THEORY of Vegas Pro editing Paradigm, it's this kind of thing that keeps me from using Vegas Pro for any serious work. A simple upgrade can literally introduce new issues that should have been caught in QC. To me, that's sloppy programming on their part.
PNG sequences gamma error in 32bit mode. Introduced with 9.0, 3 tickets, acknowledged by SCS, not alone. Still not fixed 11 releases later.
Elastique bug not fixed...
Keyframes bugs not fixed...
I can also confirm that there seems to be something seriously wrong with the Blu-ray burning from the timeline in the 10e 64-bit version. The 32-bit 10e seems to work OK.
My burner is an internal LG BD GGW-H20L ATA device. At the moment I try to burn from the timeline to a Bluray Vegas bombs - just one second after it starts the search for drives... The project is simply ONE jpg picture, nothing else.
What on earth is going on? Vegas is falling into pieces, things that worked before breaks with each bug fix release...
I can also confirm that those other serious bugs mentioned by LoTN - they are still there!
Waiting for a new, hopefully soon to be released 7th version of VP10. Luckily there are still many letters left in the alphabet...
I'm very disappointed with this release. New bug(s), and old recognized and serious ones are still there...
Christian
EDIT: The Bluray burning issue would deserve it's own thread...
10.0e sees my LG Blu-ray drive (BD-RE WH10LS30 1.0 )
@ Gwaio: The bug definitely comes from having more than 1 Vegas open at a time, but having multiple...
I didn't realize it only occurs when more than one instance is open....that's good to know ...but then like you, I have to have more than one open at a time pretty regularly : (
I have done some additional testing this afternoon. It appears the grayed out bluray drives is not a vegas 10e GLOBAL bug but only surfaces under specific conditions. Unfortunately this specific condition is not good.
If I test this with a simple 2D project the blu ray drives are present . If I turn on properties, stereoscopic 3D to any of the modes like SBS half or anaglyph, and look at the burners they are grayed out. This did not happen in 10d.
I tested the install several times both from a fresh clean install of 10e and as an upgrade to 10d and the issue remains with 10e not seeing the BD drives for any 3D timeline.
In addition, I tested an MVC 3D clip on the timeline selected it but with the properties set to stereographic off and the drives are present but the output is 2D only. If I select properties to 3d, any mode, then check the drives in the blu ray burn, they are grayed out and gone from access.
I have reported this in an update to my bug report this afternoon. I suggest if you all see the same thing submit a tech support report on it too.
To repeat, it isn't as easy to say there is no bug because your system sees the drives. You need to verify the bug using a 3D timeline, not 2D.
Also, I could find no correlation whether there are more than one instance of Vegas running or not. It doesn't seem to matter.
I had a maths teacher who really knew his stuff, yet he used to say, "doing mathematics keeps you humble". That was in the days before digital computers. I think he would have said the same about computer programming if he had tried it.
Add another person with the Blu-ray drive problem: Vegas 10e 64-bit does not see my LG CH10LS20 Blu-ray drive. In the Tools/Burn Disc/Blu-ray Disc dialog, the drop-down drive list under Drive Parameters shows only my non-Blu-ray DVD drive. The LG Blu-ray drive is not shown as a choice. And I am in 2D mode, not 3D.
Vegas does see the drive in file browse operations such as File/Open, just not in the Burn Disc dialog.
DonLandis, excellent testing. I applaud your logical approach and systematic track-down. SONY are truly fortunate to have you onboard.
For my 2pence I'm guessing Vegas CAN see the device but it isn't being revealed through the GUI because of the selection of the 3D option. But not being a programmer I'm just testing the wind.
