12 hours and no major bug?

musicvid10 wrote on 10/11/2010, 10:50 AM
Sony took a wise step by issuing bugfix version 10.0a as the initial public release, and for allowing themselves enough time to do so.
Smart from a PR as well as an engineering standpoint.
Looking at the release notes, many of the bugfixes resulted from beta testing; many of those things wouldn't have been caught in-house.

Many thanks to Sony for not taking a "General Motors" approach to field testing, and kudos to beta testers, whoever you may be . . .

Right on!

Agreed. I also appreciate the "a" version, signifying fixes have already been effected. I'm guessing that some industry reviewers received pre-"a" copies and it's important to be able to differentiate that their copies are pre-release.

Can't run in demo mode (either x32 or x64), it keeps asking for a key. Too bad, I was kinda excited to check the new audio features, Mercalli vs Deshaker and test if issues I have with V9 are fixed.

Image stabilization crashed with MXF raylight files. Cineform codec needs fixing.
musicvid10 wrote on 10/11/2010, 11:55 AM
lotn,
Runs just fine in demo mode. You do have to register.

Waldro,
There will undoubtedly be some issues with third party codec sellers, and those you mentioned will undoubtedly be making some adjustments as duplicable issues are indentified..

me too installed x64 on my test PC and install ran ok.

@musicvid, thanks for reminding this. It's been a long time I didn't ran it in demo... I owe you a beer !

I did have a crash after a couple of image stabilizes (Canon MTS files). I did send the diagnostics to SCS. Haven't been able to duplicate the crash, and I have been banging on it pretty hard.

Oh, and the stabilized video was very, very nice.

Cannot change render settings when I try to render to cineform as stated by others, apart from that so far so good after an inital crash loading a large ( 2hr) cineform project. (25p film scan 2)

windows 7 64 bit
32 bit vegas 10

The cineform settings issue has been reported and discussed in a couple of other threads.

To restate, it surprises me that people are now using this thread to report support issues for third party products.
Seems just a bit strange, and completely misplaced.
So maybe those inclined to do so will wish to start their own threads, if only for the sake of effectiveness.

;?)

With the exception of images sequences, no major issue here although I did very quick tests.

My overall impression is that V10 playback is far more better than V9. The new audio features are cool.

small bug:

UK PPM meters are sticking with peak hold even when peak hold is not selected

the other VU / PPM meters are all working correctly

"With the exception of images sequences, . . ."

what problem did you experience? I use image sequences a lot, and am on the fence regarding upgrading . . .

There are most certainly bugs... maybe not major but annoying enough. I am running the 64 bit version of Vegas 10 and it won't exit cleanly. It crashes on exit and leaves a process running in the background which I have to go into task manager to kill. Otherwise the phantom background process drags my system down and freezes it once in a while. Because it crashes on exit, it doesn't remember any of my settings or most recently used files. I have been using version 9 for about a year and it works great. But I am looking forward to when 10 is bug free...

I am having problems getting my Shuttle Pro v2 to work correctly. I was going to post this here, but will simply start a new thread.

Zero gravity and I feel fine :)
I am very satisfied so far. I like the new audio functions very much, I can now do all mastering inside Vegas.
Track groups, finally! I love them.
And AVCHD plays back nicely.

+1 for happy...my playback (with fx) is twice as good!

BTW, was the "Gradient Wipe" in VP9?
rs170a wrote on 10/11/2010, 6:02 PM
Another very happy Pro 10 user here.
Loading is much faster than 9 ever was.
Still getting used to all the new features.

Randy, "Gradient Wipe" wasn't in Pro 9.

Hey Mike, I believe you are mistaken, V9 does have gradient wipe in 9e.

i got this problem on first usage. and editing was terribly slow.

i was like "noooooooooooo pleaseeeeeeeee" thinking sony launched a really-bugged version :P

LReavis, Image sequences are mentioned in "3.0 Known Issues" sections of the 10a release notes.
"If your project contains still-image sequences or segmented .r3d files, do not select the Copy media with project check box in the Save As dialog. Some frames or segments may not be saved when this check box is selected."

Wow, I am so pleased (and frankly, surprised) about how clean Vegas 10 is! On my 3+ year old machine, AVCHD preview is great (ok slows down a bit with 4 tracks but hey), every thing seems to work. I am bored, nothing to fix, work around or hack into exe files to get working. My Shuttle Pro behaves properly, Mercalli plug in works, VASST plugin shows up - yada yada.

Best upgrade to date.

Now I need to figure out what's new...

gwailo,
UK PPM meters are sticking with peak hold even when peak hold is not selected

I'm unable to duplicate your observation. UK meters working identically to the others, and as expected. Nice touch for us old guys.

Although the "peak hold" is the closest we have to traditional slow decay for VU / PPM type meters, so I expect most would leave it turned on.
