8-core Haswell-E processor

For those who are overdue for an upgrade...

"Power users had to wait (and wait) for Ivy Bridge-E parts to get their next fix."

"Intel claims the Core i7-5960X is up to 20-percent faster at editing 4K video..."

"140 Watts TDP"

I'm due in Q3 2016.

we share the same upgrade date ;-)

With 16 threads running on this processor, I wonder if a GPU is even relevant for Vegas. Does anyone know how many threads Vegas can use?

I am sure it's a great CPU but my next build will be a dual CPU setup with two 8 core Xeons. You can see how many threads Vegas can handle under options, I believe it's 16 at the moment.

Now, if only " building peaks " would use more than 7% of the CPU ...

"building peaks"

That's when I go pee...twice.

"You can see how many threads Vegas can handle under options, I believe it's 16 at the moment."

There was a discussion and some experimentation with the maximum threads and cores in this post.

In the nineties, I had an associate that bought one of the first Xeon processors on the market. The processor was very quickly eclipsed by the next wave of Pentium processors.

I slyly asked him if his Xeon system was still fast enough for him. His reply, "It may not be the fastest machine, but it's never slow."

A dual 8 core Xeon along with my 2X 290X GPU setup myself in the future as well. I just have to wait a little longer, maybe a couple of yrs from now.

So who will be the first to post before and after render speeds with the 8 core Haswell-E?
DataMeister wrote on 8/31/2014, 2:55 PM
Well, I am not going to be first. I'm due for an upgrade but it will probably be the i7-5930K. I'll wait for the extensive reviews to decide for sure. I just have a hard time paying above the sweet spot when it comes to computer hardware.
