A Couple Of Questions About VEGAS Image

MH7 wrote on 1/23/2023, 11:33 PM

Hi guys!

So, I am inching ever so more closely to upgrading to VEGAS Post 20 from VEGAS Pro 18 (my upgrade path would be, if I do upgrade, the following: VEGAS (Pro) Edit 15 >> VEGAS Pro 18 >> VEGAS Post 20). But, I just have a couple of questions re VEGAS Image.

My first question is:

  • If I create or edit an image with layers inside VEGAS Image, can I then send that VEGAS Image project to VEGAS Pro 20?

The second question is:

  • If I can send a VEGAS Image project to VEGAS Pro, can I still modify each object inside the different layers inside VEGAS Pro 20?

Thanks in advance for any help that anyone can give.

Regards,

MH7

@fr0sty | Thanks mate! I’ll have a look at that ASAP!

EDIT: I watched the video and, from what was said, it certainly sounds like VEGAS Image is quite a good application. Once again, thanks for the video @fr0sty. I might even look at FXHome’s tutorials on it.

I know this doesn't answer your question, but a good look at the advantages Image offers. As far as I know, you can transfer screenshots direct from the VEGAS timeline into Image, but I'm not sure about multi-layer support coming from Image back into VEGAS.

Yeah, I have certainly looked at some videos on YouTube re VEGAS Image. My current image editor is Corel PaintShop Pro 2018 and the UI is fairly (and annoyingly) laggy, even on my current PC (see my sig below). From what I’ve seen of VEGAS Image, it’s UI is fairly fluid and quick, which I would very much welcome over PSP 2018 (I’m sure Corel has probably fixed the sluggishness of PSP in the latest version of the application).

Also, I mostly edit images and create graphics for VEGAS Pro. So having the complete software package with VEGAS Post would be nice (I’m talking myself into); LOL 😁).

As far as I know, you can transfer screenshots direct from the VEGAS timeline into Image,…

Well, that’d be helpful, at least.

…but I'm not sure about multi-layer support coming from Image back into VEGAS.

No worries. I figured that might be the case.

It can import a psd layer by layer, so it's worth a shot.

Yep - but only if you chose start editing in Vegas Image from within Vegas Pro (Right click an image in Vegas Pro's media pool, select 'Edit in Vegas Image'). When you finish editing and close Vegas Image your png/jpg image in the media pool will be updated to reflect the edit. Vegas Pro and Vegas Image then maintain a link in the background so that

>can I still modify each object inside the different layers inside VEGAS Pro 20?

can sort of work. If you elect to ''Edit in Vegas Image'' the same image again, it will open in Vegas Image with all layers intact, But no, you cannot access the layers in Vegas Pro itself.

Good to know... that will make a useful upgrade in the future, but glad to know the layers are preserved when working within VI. I didn't realize how powerful VI was until I really started digging into this, I love the non-destructive workflow.
