I will always stay with Vegas.
I was editing a weekly TV show with it for 5 years
and was doing it in 4k when the other producers only rendered in 2k.
I bought every Vegas pro version (since v6) because it is the most logical workflow that stacks up with the human brain.
Because vegas was started by enthusiast, Open source where smart, fun guys made it a fun project.
It was free initially (80's?), shareware
The guys were also creative musicians so it had to be intuitive.
.
They just wanted quick results during the cutting stage, freeing you to concentrate on making the project attractive, not so much the program interface.
Editing Video is the most creative thing I know!
Editing makes or breaks a movie.
.
You can still see the results of that original design-simplicity despite all the addition of pro-features which you may, or may not employ
.
... So vegas designers today are still proactive because they love the product.
1. I tried Premier. You had to tell it what type of Video you are importing before it starts, the screen was always full of words I had to read to find things.
Premier Pro also crashed, seriously.
But with Vegas I just push one button and it matches the project to the media > Go !
.
With Vegas it was, still is plane and simple, you could always move the boxes (windows) around to suit your own style.
.
2. Then I bought Davinci because everyone was using it.
it is good, but didn't like time spent on creating nodes like a maze (I use a lot of effects so the right side was taken up with these complicated Diagrams).
I am sure others like it, but when you spend 8 hours a day editing I was staring at the nodes all day, admiring it.. rather than the Video itself.
"zzzzz, should I move the colour node back ahead of the 4th one? or should I make a parallel node with e 7th?.. Yes I think I'll do that.. No.. wait a minute...... WTF?
No Thanks. Its better than premier, But I like ‘simple’
3. Vegas is just drag - drop – move clip over up, down, left, right, overlap clips by dragging, I even found it more conducive to editing than Final cut pro which I used on a friend's amc recently... Oh my god.. what a slow process In comparison to vegas,.
.
If you have multicam projects it's so hard on the Apple FCut.
even the guy who owns the Mac pC got lost on Final cut pro,
Then it Crashed ! when We had a deadline to deliver.
Start all over again, the friend couldn't recover the last saved copy.. I don't understand what he did after I went home.. Exhausted
.
Final Cut Pro easily allows you to make mistakes. well that's what I experienced.
But the new mack processor is fast.
Vegas pro editing and effects are used without reaching out for razors, scissors and buttons with every step.
4. Vegas also has many ways to do the same function. It gives you choices depending on your preferred work flow.
.
If you don’t understand something, just try the alternative way (eg. Effects can be dragged on top of the event directly, or open it in a separate window (to chose variations thereof), then use it by clicking.
5. Effects can be used in 3 places:
In the Media section,
On the clip
On the track,
Or on the whole project.
Vegas Always had a complete Audio editing Built in from the start.
You can always add 3rd party Audio module, or video effects which you the open internally.
.
It has panels for grading wheels, Nesting, Multicam and so much more. but you don't see it unless you call it.
So clean, but can be complicated yet functional if you wish.
.
I never read the book,
If I forget how to use a particular Vagas function I just jump on You Tube and there is 5000 guys who will teach you in 4 seconds,
because vegas has been around for a long time.
.
It's been my favorite TOY for 20 years, I enjoy using it even though I am a busy family with inlaws !!! and a social life.
.
I want to Vegas despite spending money trying other brands
You do need a fast PC on any of them anyway, Vegas is the same specially if you use Multicam cam or lots of effects.
.
Pro-level PC recommendation:
For 10 bit 422, or even 420 at higher Transfer rates, and multicam you should buy an Intel PC with i9 level 15 with 96 or 128 Gig DDR5 ram with NVME SSD (or two) and a 1000+ W power supply with the latest MB.
and Nvidia RTX 5000 GPU. then Vegas will fly.
I want Vegas to last as long as I do,
That’s why I don’t steal the software, I pay for every version to support their unrelenting efforts.
I just went 360 model for the first time, and it’s slightly better.
I was able to be more creative with Vegas. Thank you Magix.
