a warning from scs?

Yes, BillyBoy started his own forum, too, but it was mainly to have a place to rail about me, Spot and the Vegas forum in general. It didn't last long.

BB ran it but it's main motivation was Red from the audio forum being given the boot.
I'll say no more other than I think the whole incident ended up costing SCS a lot in sales.

That message was possibly a bit harsh (though true), but I don't think it's likely to be at the root of the current warning.

My guess is that it's to do with this message which is marked "withdrawn by moderator" in the "Dead Horse/I can't leave my woman" thread: http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=890030

I can't remember what it originally said, so I can't say whether it was reasonable to withdraw it, but presumably someone thought so and objected to it.

Interesting. You can't see this post in the non-threaded view. And there's no "Report Abuse" link in the threaded view.

Anyway, that's very likely the source of the warning.

If you're getting "SCS warnings" then it's a pretty good indication you're spending too much time on the forums.

From the former (and banned) Blink3times ;)

I wish they would bring back the "Ignore User" button.

NOT that I would ever use it.........

"i'm sorry, but that was truly awful footage. i'd be ashamed posting for anyone to see, well certainly not in a professional forum anyway."

Is this a professional forum? Drat! I guess I',m not allowed to play any more.

I don't think this was the offending comment, I believe it was the one where Ushere made a comparison between Vegas and a hooker, I remember kind of raising my eyebrow when I originally saw it. Anyway, you can search for the term "hooker" and ushere's post shows up in the search results, when you go to the thread, the comment is nowhere to be found. Usually when a user deletes a comment, the post remains with the text, "deleted by user."
john_dennis wrote on 4/11/2014, 6:50 PM
I've posted "lady of the night" before, but in a more thoughful moment even deleted that.

You should hear me in the family room...

i've heard back from scs - yes THEY ARE OUT THERE ;-)

jc was right, it was my rather thoughtless throwaway remark in that particular thread. i shall be more conscious of my analogies in future ;-)

meanwhile, my comment about 'awful footage' which seems to have also sparked some supposition, appears totally unrelated to my 'warning'. for this i am extremely glad - when one cannot express, (in plain language), what one thinks of something in a public forum then i think we should begin to worry.

i was, for over 5 years, an art critic on a major paper. during the course of that time i did occasionally get 'outraged' letters from artists (and their supporters) regarding my critical comments. my usual response was, and still is; if the actual creator (rather than a third party) chooses to show their work in a public place / forum, then they should (and probably want) the public to react, whether it be feature film, painting, sculpture, etc., of course, such public postings are usually in the hope of gleaning 'good' reviews - unfortunately not all offerings are received well, and it is a poor 'artist' who cannot take criticism when received....

if i have given offense to anyone with ANY of my posts, i am truly sorry. my posts are made to help, amuse, entertain, or otherwise contribute to ongoing conversations. however, i will always maintain my right to express my opinion as i see fit, though perhaps not in such colourful language as i have done in the past ;-)
Serena Steuart wrote on 4/11/2014, 8:54 PM
Quite right. I was surprised that the "awful footage" comment would be the reason for the rebuke, but these days almost anything can cause offence. So we can re-instate that it was indeed awful.

"So we can re-instate that it was indeed awful."

No. We can't. It was a thoughtless and arrogant thing to say then, as it is now.

The OP is clearly not a professional videographer and came here merely asking for help on a problem he was having. The knowledge and ability to help him does exist here in this scs forum and indeed this is exactly what the forum is all about. Instead some of you.... "professionals" decided to criticize and shame him over his work.

Ironically enough, the OP remained civil and of age while the "pros" were acting.... well... slightly less than pro-ish.
ushere wrote on 4/11/2014, 10:31 PM
rob, i have no desire to get into an argument over aesthetics, however the op did say in his initial post:

Thanks for all your help, please comment!

and that's exactly what i did.

using the username 'the awesome filmer' is also tantamount to looking for qualification

finally, and more importantly to my mind, he is ...putting together a film for the charity Tools for Self Reliance.

i would be very surprised if any self-respecting organisation would indeed present such footage 'professionally' - though i could see it being used with a super, such as, 'amateur footage'
The awesome filmer wrote on 4/11/2014, 10:41 PM
Well I'm the OP, and I think that while the comment was harsh, I don't think it's reason to give out a warning!

However, it's true that actual criticism of my work, was not relevant - the clip was to show that there were mistakes made in the choice of shutter rate, it was never my intention to show a finished product!
ushere wrote on 4/11/2014, 11:09 PM
thank you for your response awesome, and i'm sorry if my observation was harsh...

i wish you ever success in what is a worthy endeavour.

good luck

My input to all, without pointing directly to anyone:

I guess whatever the username is picked, let's not just straightly judge the person.

Also, being in the online community, we may easily transfer our words, our minds, but we may not be able to transfer our emotional or moods, so it is easy to mistakenly 'receiving' the 'message'...

Remind ourselves, we all here to keep connected, learning something new, or may also RE-learn what had been learned before, so did I.

Let us keep together these forum calm and nice.

OREALY?

;) Seriously, everybody should use smiles as they would show their moods. Except for this one: :::) We don't need no Doom 3 Imp smiles around here. :D

"the clip was to show that there were mistakes made in the choice of shutter rate,"

I was getting to the point of wondering if that was the case myself.

In fairness to everyone here though I think you should have made that point from the get go. This was your first post here as far as I'm aware and you were saying you'd gone to great lengths to shoot this footage so it's understandable that some including myself would be somewhat concerned and felt obliged to say something.

I DID mention a problem wit exposure from the out set. This is what I wrote that opened the subject:

"Hi everybody, I think I recorded this with the exposure too long, resulting in the blurring between frames. Is there a plugin for Sony Vegas that can fix this?

Here is the video:

Thanks for all your help, please comment!"

It wasn't perfect, but the distinction of either asking help about a finished piece or the shutter speed / exposure is clear.
