The thing is that Vegas is opening MP4 with AC3, and is trying to play it, but the decoder is broken. What you're asking is for Vegas to remove that compatibility when they get their decoder working because it's not a legal format
Lets look at another illegal format, AVC with MP3, vegas does not support that format, won't load, and most other editors don't either, and why is that? I would propose it's because it's illegal and there's no valid reason for it to exist, which is quite different to AVC or HEVC with AC3 where a need exists.
@john_dennis, I am not trying to get the Vegas programmers to do anything. I was asked by a friend if that file format worked in Vegas. It clearly doesn't. I was only reporting that it didn't, and what software did support it on my computer.
If it were a "frankenfile", why would Premiere, Resolve, Hitfilm Pro 16, Magix Video Pro X (v11) bother to support it?
I never said I want Magix to "accommodate any kludge that Moravi can dream up". You are reading more into this than what I have personally posted.
A correction for that video above, when I made that encode I called it AC3 to signify to myself it's not DTS, but to be specific it's the enhanced version of AC3, which is why Vegas isn't playing it, but still the comparison remains true that other editors play it back fine
Format : E-AC-3 Format/Info : Enhanced AC-3 Commercial name : Dolby Digital Plus
