Activating on new computer

Widetrack wrote on 5/31/2017, 9:58 PM

I've been a registered Vegas, sound Forge, DVDA user for years up through the Magix Vegas 14. Got a new computer, downloaded all the software, installed it, but there is no evidence of any of it on the computer. All I get is this little New Blue software management window asking for a serial number. I entered the one I got from Magix with VP 14--with and without dashes--but it does nothing when I click the OK button.

Help. please. I got video to edit!

PS. Why is there no Magix forum, only this? I've been away, and it seems I've missed something.

Magix are using "VEGAS" as a brandname rather than "Magix" for Vegas and DVDA products. So where you previously looked for "Sony" should now look for "VEGAS". For example the program is installed in "Programs > VEGAS > VEGAS Pro 14.0". Same goes for the names of FX, for example Sony Color Curves is now VEGAS Color Curves.

The activation happens differently from Sony days, and your computer needs to be online to do it. It's been straightforward for me so far.

There are Magix forums too. For example the Sound Forge PC forum is now here: https://www.magix.info/us/audio-forum/sound-forge-pc/

Thanks, Nick. But there's no Vegas folder in Program Files or Program Files(x86). There is a Magix folder in (x86) with just an unhelpfull "Connect" subfolder), and both proDAD and Newblue folders, but no Vegas anywhere. I sent a tech support msg on the Magix site, and was assured I'd get a reply in a couple of days (!!??).

It sure feels different from the vibrant old Vegas forum. Kind of empty.

Guess I'll try the long download and install procedure again. Don't have much hope, though.

This sounds unusual. What OS are you using?

Try a clean uninstall following these instructions then consult this thread for downloading. This is the latest VP14 installer. If you also want DVDA, Mercalli and NewBlueFX, as included in "Pro" rather than "Edit", then you'll need to use the download manager but note there are newer versions of both Mercalli and NewBlueFX than the ones served by that download manager.

There should be a 'VEGAS' folder in your Program Files folder where Vegas resides.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the queries and info. I found a V14 installer file I'd DL'ed some time ago, and installed with it. Eventually, I found the "My Account" page on the Magix site and DL'ed Build 244. It's now installed and great to actually watch video in the preview window. My old Core 2 machine that was slowly dying, could only show HD video in irregular jerky movements. but it looks like I got a lot of catching up to do.

Having two sites--Magix and vegascreative . . .--is weird. It's hard to know which site does what.

Thanks again to all for the help.

Cornico:

I just noticed the reference you made to the executable that suggested Build 244 was out of date, so I DL'ed again and sure enough got the build 252 you mentioned.

Thank you.
