Adding a timecode or clock which scales with a timelapse video?

Brent_A wrote on 9/6/2018, 9:35 AM

Hi All,

I'm putting together a video that has a timelapse segment - My camera took still images for 2 hours in real-time, 1 frame taken every 5 seconds for 1440 total frames. This was compiled into a clip that is 30 fps for a clip length of 48 seconds.

I want to add a timer in the corner so that the "real" elapsed time is displayed. That is, frame 1 displays "5 seconds," frame 720 displays "1 hour," and frame 1440 says "2 hours." The clock should tick through 2 hours of time in the duration of the 48 second clip.

Does anyone have a clever method for doing this in Vegas Pro? I'm on the brink of just taking a new timelapse video of a stopwatch for 2 hours :-)

I use Vegas Pro 14.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

- Brent

Render a two hour UHD track with just timecode. Time compress it until you can time align to your 48 second clip with successive lossless renders. You may want to use No Resample. Put it on a track above your main track and use the cookie cutter to expose just the time code.

Hi Brent,

I planned to release a clock simulation plugin for Vegas on the weekend that should do what you are looking for.

If you want to test it, you can find it here:

https://www.hlinke.de/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=en:vegas_pro_ofx

If the maximum speedfactor is not sufficient for your application I can easily increase it.

The description is not finsihed yet, but it should be ok for your tests.

Harold

Hi Brent,

I just updated the description in English

The plugin allows the creation of an anlogue or digital clock with a high degree of flexibility.

The clock also has a speedfactor allowing to speed up the clock up to a factor of 9999. If my calculation is correct you only need factor 150. So this should be no problem.

The plugin and the description can be found here:

Here are some examples:

This clock plug-in works fine here. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Marco,

thank you for your feedback. I will create a separate post later today with the "official" release.

Harold.

Thanks Harold!

Great plugin, I had a chance to put it into a video this weekend.

Hi, Harold, it looks great but somehow I don't have OFX-HLinke show up in Vegas 13 or 14 list of effects. I am running Win 10 64 bit. I extracted the bundle directory from the zip file. Windows says size of bundle directory: 153 KB (156,672 bytes)

Any help appreciated.

Did you copy the complete folder "OFXClock.ofx.bundle" into the folder “C:\Program Files\Common Files\OFX\Plugins”.?

Can you make a screen shot with the complete folder OFXClock.ofx.bundle open?
