Adding "Ciaroscuro" Directional Lighting to Image and/or Video

Vegas Pro 19
Boris Continuum 2023
Windows 10

____________

Above is a sample of stock photo I'm considering purchasing, but I want to give it a more dramatic "chiaroscuro" type lighting. The blue arrow's direction is this under-lighting I'd like to add.

I can't afford Photoshop and have been using the more affordable alternate, Corel PhotoPaint since 1997 and so not a newbie. But as in the past, sometimes using plugins/fx in Vegas for an image has faster and more creative results.

As stated, I also have BorisFX Continuum, but can get lost in the huge number of fx it has.

Any ideas on how this could be accomplished in Vegas and with BCC if relevant - at least to give an acceptable facsimile of such lighting?

Thanks, and Happy Holidays.

-- PS: I have found some A.I. generated stock images at Vecteezy and elsewhere that have exactly that type of lighting and I could use Dall-e or other platforms to create such an image. But...

I can't generate or buy A.I. generated images for ethical reasons - copyrights issues are still a pending morass. Which frankly sucks due to how amazing the finds and results can be, but that's how I'm wired.

Since chiaroscuro is a bit of a geeky art history term, here is an example what I'd like to more or less do with that above rather flatly lighted stock photo. Think lighting by bright candle or oil lamp...

https://forum.borisfx.com/c/continuum/23 My suggestion is that You can come here for help. The official of Continuum will give you very professional advice.

In addition, your needs are similar to these, you can refer to them:

@lan-mLMC - Thanks. I'll give it a shot. I've used the BorisFX forum once before and was helped (totally different issue). Ostensibly I could just use a mask but that could get tricky to get it to look as real as possible.

I haven't done any video creation or editing for some time, and I've forgotten a lot of stuff - and the journey towards turning 70 in Jan. 2025 ain't helping the sharpness of my memory banks - lol. I was a lot sharper when I first joined this (then Sony) forum in 2006. My first version of Vegas was 6 and got it legit as DVD-only at B&H. That was the first time I had a real NLE...
