I am not sure which streaming servers support FLV, but that isn't relevant if you encode to H.264 since it doesn't use an FLV container it uses an MP4 container. MP4 is the same container as QuickTime. If you want to stream video anything that supports QT should therefore support FLV.

Most people don't use streaming servers though, most people and companies use progressive download, which FLV and MP4 both support fine once you fix the "error" in the Vegas (and most other NLE's) encoded MP4.

You shouldn't have to do anything differently. As long as your flash player is version 9.0114 and above ( I think that's when it started supporting mp4 files ) just load them in as you would load a .flv file

There could be difference with different free players you get around the web, don't know, I make my own and all I need to do is specify the file to load.

I use Wordpress to run both my sites so this could be the caveat - telling the FLV plugin to link to an mp4 file - I'll need to test out and see if it works or not.

Edit: Tested with Wordpress Flash plugin and pointed to a short mp4 video file - it plays perfectly with no changes needed to get it to run - I may need to see about running the micro atom app to verify this on longer clips
