are we all happy v8a's?

have to say they appeared to have cleaned up the bits that directly affected me... and since there hasn't been an outpouring of bile, or even noticeable rants, i presume by and large we all are?

anyway, thanks sony for listening to my whimper.

I'm very happy indeed. No crashes in several days' editing, rock solid HDV smart render, no black frames, 25 fps playback of both "Sony" and "MainConcept" m2t files at best (full) on my 24" Dell as a Windows Secondary Display.... obviously there's always room for improvement (e.g. HDV capture) but this is now really a great NLE for HDV. Thanks Sony!

Still no 32 bit HD render, but hopefully that'll be fixed in the next one.

I can 32 bit render SD just fine. Trying to render 32 bit HDV always crashes my system. Aside from that I like Vegas 8 a lot. Most of what I like about it is bug fixes that should be part of Vegas 7, but hey, you do what you have to do to get your work done!

I use Vegas 8a in 8bit mode and all appears fine. Just in case Sony is reading this, I will restate that rendering to HDV or AVCHD in 32bit mode crashes Vegas on all my various systems / OS's.

I think v8a seems to work fine. It just seems to have some memory alocation issues with Vista. If I keep my projects to less than 70% of available ram usage, I can do everything just fine. If I let it grow to over 80% it is guaranteed to crash during render. This becomes a bit of a hassle, as the only way I can finish my project, is to break it up in smaller sections.

Seems like Vegas could use a preference to set a RAM ceiling, along with a cache meter with a flush button.

I'm enjoying the experience.

Only problem has ben crashes using the Wax plug-in (which also happened in V5d). I have now uninstalled Wax and all is stable.

I doubt if I'll delve into many of the hidden talents of V8Pro that others do but I keep finding new things I can do with it.

Cheers

There are still some minor issues, but I am sure they'll be cleaned up on V8b. For the most part though... a great success. The smart render and the pro titler are the real big home runs for me.... love it!

So I'll ask again: does 8a preview HDV better than 7e on the same machine?

For the most part

Still having my withdrawals from PPro/Steadymove plugin - but I'm not willing to put up with a sluggish machine and VP8 is just as fast for me as V7 was. Now if I could just figure out Deshaker - even with the tutorial it's still frustrating.

"Sony" flavour HDV m2t files played smoothly for me at version 7.0e and still do at 8.0a. But now "MainConcept" flavour HDV m2t files now also playback similarly smoothly, which they certainly didn't at version 7.

If you don't know the difference between the flavours search the forum for m2tsplug.dll

The best performance I have obtained with Deshaker is with the script defaults by Johnmeyer. I have messed with it for days with no better results.

why?
FritzG wrote on 10/27/2007, 7:10 AM
I In V8a I was able to render a good AVCHD film, after editing, titling and mounting a lot. No problems, but I had to do it in 8bit mode. Still I had no crashes in 32 bit, only a large amount of tinme to render (actually 20x, while rendering in 8 bit took "only" 2,5x the real time of the video). But I am using a Vista 64 machine and my problems in 32 bit are probably due to a basic contraddiction (I guess...).

Any tips on downloading V8 for $149? Built a dual quad and now the download web page is unreachable. There must be a trick. Oh, I can download for $249 but rather not.

At the top of this page, go Support - Knowledgebase.
The very first answer on that page is the $149.95 / $134.95 (packaged/download) offer.
