In a nutshell, if your computer has a clean Windows 11 build 24H2 installation, that build no longer includes the Dolby AC-3 codec.
When you say that you have Sony Vegas, that means that you have Vegas Pro version 13 or earlier - and those versions included a Dolby AC-3 codec; however, that is no longer the case with recent versions of Vegas Pro as released by MAGIX - please see https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/sony-vegas-vs-vegas--119881/

@Riccardo Can you upload a small bit of the recording for us to test?
Sorry, uploading a video file for testing is not gonna work like that. We need the direct footage from the camera, you do this by uploading the file to a file sharing platform like dropbox, wetransfer etc, then provide the link.
I don't know that testing Riccardo's file will help. Those of us that still have a Windows AC-3 codec should be able to play it but those without won't. I suspect Riccardo's situation is as Dexcon summarised:

We wait to see what Vegas comes up with to get around the problem. As VEGASDerek has indicated they are working on it.
@jetdv Listen I don't question the ownership of the software from MAGix or Sony but please don't question my purchase because I don't have anything inauthentic on my PC. Maybe I should have specified my version? I will do that later.
@EricLNZ so for now there is no solution. I understand.
@Riccardo I didn't question your purchase. I questioned you still calling it "Sony" after Sony's been out of the picture for over a decade. It's now a Magix product - just call it "VEGAS". Nothing else is needed. Plus Magix has requested that the word "Sony" not be used anymore per the link I provided.
@jetdv I have established this but it was the fault of habit. I will try to be careful. However that I cannot edit my videos acquired with my VG10, even if dated but excellent cam with the latest VEGAS PRO is absurd. MAGIX must fix it.
I thought since win 11 pro also reads the audio part of the video well, the responsibility was solely Vegas 22.
Clearly you haven't read this and other threads relating to this problem caused when you have a fresh install of Windows 11 24H2. It's been explained many times. It affects all video editors that rely on Windows AC-3 components. If you read the Microsoft link that's in one of the threads you will see that MS are hoping PC manufacturers will solve the problem by providing something to read AC-3. Personally I consider that poor behaviour by MS.
What puzzles me is how free players such as VLC, MPC-HC are able to handle AC-3 without presumably paying Dolby any licensing fees?
