Audio available, but no sound.....

Here is the deal. Ihave recorded a 4k video using a Sony AX53 camera. XAVC S and a video using a standard mp4 format at 1920x1080. When I import the videos into the Sony Vegas Pro 16 timeline I see the audio, in the form of VU meter movement, but NO AUDIO is generated, I then add a video, created using Camtesia, and I can hear the audio.

I render the video and play it on another machine and it ALL sounds just fine. Play the video on the machine with vegas installed and NO audio.

I AM TOTALLY STUMPED.

I believe this has been an issue since Vegas 16 has been installed. Compounding this issue is it ONLY happens only with the Sony camera. It DOES NOT happen using my GoPro 6 camera.

Desperately seeking ideas.

Thank you for the recommendation. This did not help. I know this is a crazy issue. It is system related as I can copy a raw video to another machine and is works great.

I do know know enough about the system to determine the problem.

The videos work great on other machines even after using Vegas. This does not EVER play on this computer.

If it were happening to me I would be looking for some setting somewhere. That is what my intuition tells me is wrong here. I apologize for not being able to support my intuitive thought with any facts or suggestions. I would just look through all the properties, preferences, media properties, etc., etc.

When I have problems with video from my older Sony cams or from a download I use Sony Catalyst Browse (free) which will often open up videos VP 15 & 16 won't. I've had situations where either the video or audio or both were the problem.

I convert the video in Catalyst Browse to an intermediate codec that I know works well in VP 16 and then do my work in Vegas, no problem, render from the intermediate codec to whatever my delivery format will be.

Solved quite a few problems for me. Solves the problem of unsupported video/audio types in Vegas. Or even if I'm the problem because I've got or done something wrong in Vegas! And I got the suggestion from a post here. It's a workaround for sure, but the added advantage of using an intermediate codec is actually very handy and alleviates a lot of little frustrations, lol.

I wish you luck John, if the problem persists, let us know. Maybe one of us could try it with your video file on our setups. I would be willing to try. See if I end up with the same problem .....

Probably not the problem, but a long time ago I had a problem with bad audio on a file on an external USB HD in Vegas that worked fine when the file was on c: drive. Is your file by any chance on an external drive?

Thank you for the responses. I still believe it is a software issue somewhere. I can play the same video on another machine without any problem.

I am considering a new computer to ease frustration.
