Try removing the file and reinserting.The proxy file could be corrupted. There has also are been instances of problems with MP3 files in VP and Sound Forge, Search this and the SF forums.
As a workaround, transcode the MP3 to a PCM file <.wav> ) with an online format converter or with Sound Forge if you have it
