Automate the events in the rhythm of the beats (Resquest)

Former user wrote on 3/20/2019, 10:34 AM

Currently Vegas Pro still does not natively have the ability to automatically sync events to the beat of the music. Ideally, there should be this feature natively in Vegas. But while that is not possible, there are ways to get great results using other applications along with Vegas. Below are the main ways:

Method 1

Using Focus on Vegas Music Video Sync 2.1

https://www.focusonvegas.com/music-video-sync-v2/

Method 2

Using MixMeister BPM Analizer With VASST Marker Maker and VASST Still Motion or Vegasaur

https://mixmeister-bpm-analyzer.softonic.com.br/

http://vasstsoftware.com/product/markermaker/

http://vasstsoftware.com/product/stillmotion/

https://vegasaur.com/

Method 3

Using Beat Edit in Adobe Premiere for export the bookmarks to Vegas and then I use Vegasaur to automate the events in the rhythm of the beats.

Yes this would be great if this was a native feature of Vegas.

For the first part of your workflow (detecting the beat positions and generating Markers) you can also use Music Video Sync instead of Adobe Premiere.

Hi @FocusOnVegas

Thank you for developing this feature. I downloaded it to test.

I tested the Music Video Sync V2.1 in two identical mp3 files 44,100 khz I was able to create markers with sucess in one file and in another not. This error message appears in one of the files.

This is the link to download the files if you want to test. Maybe you can figure out the difference between them that makes one being recognized and the other not.

Hi @Former user

Thank you for uploading a good sample.
For "Imagine Dragons-Hear Me", it worked well if you set "expiry Time" to 14 or more.

Hi @Rikichan

Yes, you are right. Now works fine here.

Great job @FocusOnVegas

Thanks,

P.S - I ended up finding one more way to detect the beats. If they are interested I can post a video showing how.

Good tricks are always welcome, the main reason - at least for me - read here very attentively.
Many thanks in advance.

Come back Gary James and his Audio Beat Markers within Timeline Tools. 😢

Former user wrote on 3/22/2019, 6:52 AM

Hi @Grazie

I used Gary James's TimelineTolls for a long time. It's a great tool. Unfortunately it is only compatible until Vegas Pro 13.

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/automatically-place-markers-on-music-beats--96812/

There is also the fact that the current tools being developed, such as FocusOnVegas Music Video Sync, deliver better and more accurate results.

Grazie wrote on 3/22/2019, 7:02 AM

@Former user - Yeah, I know. Still want him back. That Audio Marker Mapper is just pure super slick and a work of genius and ALL within the Vegas Timeline, no need to go external and swap in and out and in and out to do fine tuning. I worked at this new offering, but felt I might as well just tap the M key, my opinion only 😉.

My workflow to edit to the beat in VMS:

  1. Detect with the freetool MixMeister BPM analyzer the BPM of my favorite song.
  2. Set projectsettings in VMS Ruler/BPM to this analysed BPM, eventually set Beats per measure from 4 to 8.
  3. Set in Options/Grid spacing to measures and enable Snap to grid.
  4. Then I aline my song to this grid and start inserting my footage and do the trimming accordingly the grid snapping. Works very fast and accurate.

Ofcourse this workflow can also been used in VPro.

Hi @3POINT
The methods that suso are similar to yours. In the way I'm doing sync currently I also use MixMeister BPM and too change the BPM value in the Vegas Project properties. I do it in two ways, the first way I use VASST Marker Maker and VASST Still Motion. In the second way I use the Vegasaur. I am finishing editing a tutotial with the methods I use and I will post it as soon as I finish. Thank you!

The difference is that besides the tool MixMeister, I don't need external tools, I just use the tools inside Vegas, which I always prefer.

I also wish to use only Vegas for this. And that is the reason for this topic. But for some tasks I do I have to use external applications to achieve the desired results with the speed and efficiency I desire.

@3POINT - Yes. OK, where's the FREE tool MixMeister BPM?

3POINT wrote on 3/22/2019, 8:19 AM

I'm a minimalist, that's also the reason that I mostly use VMS instead of Vpro. It's like, I don't drive my car out of my garage to get bread from the bakery around the corner. But ofcourse everyone is free to achieve his goals like he desires.

Former user wrote on 3/22/2019, 8:50 AM

@walter-i.

These are the methods I mentioned that also work. You must have:

MixMeister BPM (free), VASST Marker Maker and VASST Still Motion or Vegasaur.

https://mixmeister-bpm-analyzer.softonic.com.br/

http://vasstsoftware.com/product/markermaker/

http://vasstsoftware.com/product/stillmotion/

https://vegasaur.com/

But the ideal would be to have this native feature in Vegas. It is very useful for various video editors.

Grazie wrote on 3/22/2019, 9:13 AM

Yeah, I’m doing my work with Gary’s in VP13 and import the Markers. Pretty neat.

@Former user

Very well made tutorial - leaves no questions unanswered. Thank you very much - I will gladly test.
Many Thanks

Probably nice to make automatic slideshows to the beat of the music, but what about video?

Former user wrote on 3/22/2019, 6:01 PM

@3POINT

Also serves perfectly for video.

3POINT wrote on 3/23/2019, 12:03 AM

What about the trimming of those video clips?

Former user wrote on 3/23/2019, 2:46 AM

You can manually cut each of the events or use Vegasaur to automate the cutting of all events at one time and then choose the starting and ending point of those events using the Vegas Sleep Tool.

Another trick I did not (yet) know - the slip-tool. Soooo easy ......
But: "What I still can not do, I just have to learn ....."

Thanks for that!

FocusOnVegas wrote on 3/23/2019, 5:17 AM

Great tutorial.

One addition.
If you find out that your particular song or live music doesn't have a fixed BPM (tempo changes) or Mixmeister doesn't detect the correct BPM for the song / live music, try Music Video Sync (V2). It uses a sophisticated algorithm (of Queen Mary University of London) to detect  the "real" positions of the beats (the Marker positions).

3POINT wrote on 3/23/2019, 5:21 AM

An example of an "edit to bpm" I made a couple of years ago with the automatic alinement tools (set grid to measures and snap to grid) inside Vegas (only external tool Mixmeister used to determine the BPM). Don't examine the picture quality, footage is from 2006 in HDV and I compressed heavily for upload through my very slow internet connection .

The Timeline, take a close look, no markers needed:
