Oh dear, that's an even longer process than I feared : ) You are a patient fellow! 😂

Here's a sample form to test out. Please private message me with an email address you use with Gmail or Google Docs, Sheets, etc. and I'll invite you to be able to edit this form and see the responses.

@RogerS One more thing. When Kinvermark set the ball rolling on this, he got feedback from Magix that they may well roll out their own benchmarking project. Surely that would be the best way forward.

They, Magix, could well be able to add in the capability of properly monitoring the correct Avg. FPS values, in a way thats not possible, within my capabilities, with this project. That would add great value to it, and frankly, its a bit of guesswork getting the fps values, notwithstanding the efforts by all users who have done their best to do so.

I totally agree with that and have asked Magix for the same thing. Ideally it would be click a button, sit back and let Vegas run through a few renders and some playback and precisely record data in a consistent format. Get the option to upload it then and there, or keep it private for your own info. But until that day comes...

Just having a new PC, i7-10700, and here I join the benchmarking.

My reports probably a bit complicated as I need to put additional data for myself, and trying experiment with various combination, and currently compared with my laptop ASUS ROG. There's also an i5 machine that I haven't benchmark.

Hope the data useful.

@set @RogerS Ok, my worst nightmare has arrived, I made it clear to RogerS that I would go along with the new data entry as long as it didn’t entail more work. Set, you have not entered any CPU values, and you have entered Vouroudouker values which are not in the SS. I owe you a favour, because, at this early stage I can see this is going to involve far more work for me, correcting users erroneous inputs.

Set, please use the original user data input layout available in the downloadable zip file and post your results here, thank you. Please note, ideally, I much prefer to get all of a users test data, as much as possible in one go, so that I don’t have to constantly update his, hers data. New HW changes the exception, or new machines.

Set, there is no need to get carried away with tons of data, a typical input would suffice, i.e. cpu, nvenc, vce, qsv for FHD and UHD. depending on which encoders you have availability of, its not a marathon, more to get a snapshot of how a users HW results compare to others.

So even if you have a machine that had all of the above mentioned encoders, there is no compunction to enter all. Once users enter say CPU and the fastest HW encoder on deck, then that will give everyone a good reference for that machine. Still, nothing stopping you doing more if you want to. Also keep comments as concise as possible to fit on the single comments entry cell.

I am removing the link to the new Google Forms data entry in the 1st. page.

By all means, RogerS, if not done already give a link to this thread to a wider audience, without the google forms.

@JN- This has nothing to do with the Google Form I made- please look at it. You'll see there is still only one response (my test). Set just made his own spreadsheet for his own purposes and fields that don't correspond with your sheet. It has nothing to do with me.

@RogerS Well, its a mess, on google.doc. All users please enter user data input here only.

@set “Set just made his own spreadsheet for his own purposes and fields that don't correspond with your sheet.” WHY?

@set I await your results here, when convenient for you to do so, thank you for you efforts, probably well intended, but not what I need.

@RogerS Thank you for your initiative, and the work you have already put into the google form, but not what I need.

If you tried it once you might see the value in limiting user inputs and thereby user error. It's fine if you try to use it and it doesn't work for you but I don't get why you didn't even try it .

Interesting- the first set of scores is slower than I would expect for a desktop with such a processor. You are sure about the time (and that the system is working properly?)

Probably best to let Set speak for himself.

For my part, People are entitled to change their mind.

If you care to travel down memory lane, as I recollect, from page 4/5 onward, in the original Benchmarking project, there was quite the controversy from one user who wasn’t comfortable with my way of entering his data. He removed his data and went on to produce his own Benchmarking projects within this forum. I mention this example, because I do recognise that that not everyone, all the time, will be happy with the mythology that I have put together, with assistance from Kinvermark. Its human nature to attempt to improve, change things, I get that. However, it is what it is for this Benchmarking project.

@RogerS, What result do you probably expect within my system? Well - currently, this is how I able to reach. If the result is slower, probably due to other windows being opened? Probably... for FPS counting, just try my best after countless of looping playback - so it's the best I can observe.

As for rendering time - that's the number - Probably due to rendering to same drive affected result? or drive reading speed ? If it is, the data is from the new HDD 4TB.

@JN-, take your time. Still, thanks for arranging this benchmarking experiment. Reason why I make it 'more than needed here (this forum topic)' is my personal experiment in order to know deeper the workflow 'pipeline' Vegas Pro has, and my elder brother (and my computer builder as well) who curious about the performance compared to other machines.

Hi @set, for rendering times if you go back to the first page of this thread there is a screenshot with the scores to date listed. Click on it, wait until it loads and then you can save it or drag it to a new tab to see the full size. You can see other computers with similar GPUs and CPUs. I'd expect a score closer to 1-2 min. for GPU-accelerated UHD.

(Also, the 8-core higher clock speed desktop should be faster than the 6-core laptop, no? Perhaps worth running other hardware benchmark software and make sure it's working as expected overall.)

set wrote on 2/4/2021, 3:43 AM

Got it - thanks for suggestion. I'll see what I can do later.

RE: your brother, the PC builder, i’m sure you are both aware, the perceived wisdom is that for rendering, the best results are achieved when the CPU and GPU, Asic, work together, a balanced performance, match each other, without any one having to wait for the other. Easier said than done of course.

In my new PC, I just copy the whole benchmark data from HDD 4TB to NVMe drive, even doing whole system's restart, and then proceed again - I got 3m01s

Please update all of your entries with a single fps value, thanks.

For this forum's post, it's already the same number from both machines (new desktop, and the ASUS ROG).

Easier said than done of course.

Correct - now how and where to go to optimize it.

My bad, I misread it.

By the looks of it, you are still finessing your results? Just post here when finalised.

It's alright... 'tuning up' for more optimum speed might still a big homework on how to do it properly. You can leave my test date (Feb 4th) in the comment in case I coming back later. I can't promise when - as I still have something else to do... I still more concerned with overall stability.

I will temporary log in my google sheet, and if I able to get better result, I'll post it here.
