Best Video Card (or CPU?)

I'm looking to upgrade my rig with the main goal to improve preview and rendering for Vegas Pro 14. Currently do not have a discreet GPU; the CPU is an i7-2600.

I've seen praise for the RX 480 for Vegas users. Is that considered the best option at this point? I've also seen a lot of people talking about the reliance on the CPU. Should I upgrade the CPU rather than getting a discreet GPU?

I use an RX480 and I'm happy with it. The problem for you is that you will have a difficult time finding one and you will pay a significant premium over the $240 that I paid. The options for system upgrades these days are great.

Thanks for the response. Any idea if there would be a significant difference with a RX580 instead of RX480? For some reason they seem to be more readily available.

Also, does yours have 4 GB or 8 GB of RAM?

8 GB

Search this forum. There was a lot of RX 480 and RX 580 discussion in the last few months.

Thanks. I'd read a few threads with the 480; I'd not seen anything on 580.

Enter “RX 580 RX580” (without the quotes) into the search box at the top of the screen.

A powerful GPU with the right drivers and architecture will help, but don't expect miracles. Unless it's severely rewritten and redesigned, the preview is Vegas' worst bottleneck and its weakest link.
