Best way to zoom HD vs project size

I have 1920x1080 footage, but need to zoom in on most of it to crop out unwanted side action using the track pan-crop function.

To get the best final quality (rendering for YouTube/Vimeo) should I:

- Leave the project properties at 1920x1080
- Make the project properties, say, 720 so that the amount I zoom will end up being "normal" sized ?

I always thought it best to leave the project properties at the actual size of the clips, but maybe not in this case ?

My techno-philosophical, knee-jerk answer would be to "- Leave the project properties at 1920x1080".

Are you rendering to a 1280x720 output? If so, set the project properties to this size.

Yes, 1280x720 is the final render.

I rendered out from a 1920 project and it looked very sharp, I'll try a 1280/720 project, thanks :-)
