IF Avid still owns Pinnacle, they offer some USB capture, but I think it is using their proprietary hardware. I would be surprised if Avid Media Composer will allow USB capture since Avid is a Pro system.

Pinnacle Studio software is now owned by Corel.
Pinnacle hardware is owned by Hauppauge.

Oh, didn't know that. Back in the early days, Pinnacle built the video cards for Avid systems. Not the video card like you have now, but the heavy duty, make it actually possible to edit video on slow computers type video cards.

Actually, the Pinnacle cards were built by Miro gmbh using the Zoran/Philips hardware encoder chip.
The Studio software was buggy as *****, and slumping sales after XP was introduced were eventually responsible for the Avid acquisition, but that happened many years after the Miro DC10/DC30 capture cards, which were in high demand because they would bust Macrovision on VHS movies.

Interestingly, Pinnacle also owned Steinberg for a while before the Avid acquisition.

I acquired a bunch of discontinued DC10+ cards from Office Depot, listed them on eBay for $60 each (about half of street price), and sold out within 48 hrs.
Yes, I made a lot of $ on the deal.

I still have one of the cards, but it only works on Win95/98. So-called XP drivers are ****.
Pinnacle 5 was my very first editing software, and the SpiceRack transitions were truly awesome because the masks were customizable.

DV pretty much put that all to rest, however. Fortunately, the MJPEG AVI files can still be opened using the Mainconcept MJPEG trial version.
Just a slice of history.

I was referring to the early Avid Media composers. They used Pinnacle cards.

My guess is that they were made by Pinnacle/Miro in Germany, not Pinnacle USA, but that's just a guess because I was already on Vegas 2 by '02.
