@JRey Hi, I just filled my motherboard with as much as i could, it normally only uses 20%-ish when editing etc, but Prerender uses it & i wanted to be able to prerender large sections,

You may be able to buy another 16GB RAM cheaply, but it's the GPU & CPU that do the main work so as @Dexcon says upgrading your pc maybe not worth it, you can buy new PC's with good CPU's & GPU's for not much more than you'd pay for the parts to upgrade your existing one, so i'd wait till you can afford or have to replace the PC you have,

Like you I am semi retired so I don't do that many videos for money these days, more playtime.so I will see how it goes. I looked at your graphics card and the price, I like computers but... 😁

@JRey  ... re

Decided to treat myself to another 16 gb of Ram

From your computer specs, it looks like you have a desktop. You may already be fully aware of this, but just in case, first make sure that your computer has an empty RAM slot (or two) to take the additional RAM card/s (e.g. 1 x 16 or 2 x 8) and that the new RAM cards are of the same type as those already installed as per the specs in your computer's user manual.

@Dexcon Thanks 👍 Did all of the above and just placed my order. Will adding another 16GB make the slightest difference? Answers on a postcard or wait until Thursday 😉

@JRey ... the Intel i7-47740 was released nearly 9 years ago and it was the CPU on my then main use 2014 Dell desktop computer along with 32GB RAM. With Vegas Pro 18 it was okay with HD but struggled with 4K especially if VFX were added. If you are primarily using HD (1920 x 1080) then 16GB RAM is the recommended minimum - it's 32GB RAM for 4K, but if you do upgrade to 32GB, please don't expect a free flowing timeline experience.

Another thing that I found with the i7-4770 - its too old to use the two AI VFX in Vegas Pro 18 (three AI VFX in Vegas Pro 19) which are called the Deep Learnings Models. If installed, they'll show up in the Video FX window but simply do not work with an i7-4770 (in my experience).

If you intend updating to next versions of Vegas Pro, it may be necessary to consider a new PC. Please keep in mind that with future versions of Vegas Pro, the recommended minimum specifications are more likely than not to increase.

@Dexcon I can't recall if you get the choice of Deep Learning at install, I will check. If that's the case is it worth a reinstall without it given the machine limitations.

Postcards? Do they still exist? Goodness knows how many I bought and kept or posted decades ago during my early travels around Europe (1982) - long, long before digital photos and video. I'm most happy to wait until Thursday. Hoping that you'll get a good performance improvement. Cheers.

With Vegas Pro 18, the DLMs would install on my i7-4770 but just would not work as a VFX. Both the Vegas program and DLM are installable options in both Vegas Pro 18 &19 via their respective installers.
