Boxed copy arrived without a box?

PixelStuff wrote on 3/11/2003, 12:33 PM
Well, I'm a little dissapointed. My boxed copy of Vegas+DVD arrived today in a bubble envelope. I ordered the boxed copy partialy so I could relplace this ugly orange Vegas 3 box with the cool blue Vegas+DVD box. Oh well :(

Maybe once all the shipments have stablized I can get them to ship me an empty box to store these things in.

"Maybe once all the shipments have stablized I can get them to ship me an empty box to store these things in."

A $30 shipping fee applies for the empty box. ;)
What you can do is print out an image of the V4+DVD box and glue it to the VV3.0 box.
Just a suggestion. :)

I might try that. Sounds like a fun project to attempt whether or not I can actually get it looking clean or realistic.

i also ordered a boxed copy though haven't received it yet....maybe it's on its way here in singapore.hope i'll get that box huh!

jbjones, where do you live? I ordered the V4 box and wanted to put the box proudly next to my computer. Would be a shame if I didn't get one (find out tomorrow if UPS doesn't decide NOT to drop off at my house... AGAIN!)

I'm in GA. The package came in a plastic bag inside a bubble envelope. It looks like everything in a normal box, just without the box. I had opted to get the box for almost the same reason. I have a shelf beside my little studio desk where I have all my big name boxes. PhotoShop, Illustrator, DreamWeaver, SoundForge, Acid, Vegas 3!

Plus it looked to me like the Vegas 4 box was thinner than previous SoFo boxes and I was looking forward to making more room on the shelf.

All kidding aside, I'd call customer service. It does show a specific box for each version and you did buy a BOXED version. I think they got caught with their pants down(don't you just hate that!) since the demand was so great for Vegas. Let's not forget Vegas 4 sold at a record volume.

This has got me laughing as I remember the same flurry of posts over on the Pinnacle Studio forum when the “boxed” versions came in plastic bags and everyone started complaining that Pinnacle was too cheap to ship a box.

I don’t think SoFo got caught with their pants down. When I ordered the “boxed” version of Vegas Video 3.0 last July, it came in a plastic bag. No box. I’ve ordered software direct from other manufacturers and gotten the software in plastic bags as well. It must have something to do with bulk mail prices on soft packages. If you want a box, I guess you’ll have to buy from a retailer because they’re the only ones who get them anymore.

Well then, shouldn't you then be given the option to buy the download version, or the BAGGED version? ;)

Actually if you look at the STORE section, you have the option of download or PACKAGED version. No mention of a box...

Yes but if gives the illusion of a box. Perhaps it’s a chroma key effect and the box will be there in post-production? ;-)

I did some searching, and found this post hat I read days ago:
http://www.sonicfoundry.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=164266&Page=0

it says that Sofo was "waiting for a few more things to put in the boxes" before they ship them out... no mention of putting things in bags.

Maybe someone from SoFo will fill us in. If I knew it wouldn't be in a box, i would of downloaded it a month or so ago!

And on a not so lighter note for me... I just found out that UPS sent my V4 box/bag to SYRACUSE, NY!! This is about the 3rd time UPS has screwed up my packages in 2 months! ugh. Sofo should switch ot FedEx or Airborne Express...

My order confirmation shows a PACKAGED version not a BOXED version.

I agree that this might seem petty but there is some value in "advertising"
to customers your professional line of software you use when they sit down in your office to discuss layouts.

I hope they placed the disc in a plastic case and not one of those 8 cent paper
sleeves. I guess I can afford to purchase a case if needed.
TheHappyFriar wrote on 3/12/2003, 9:10 AM
We all can afford buying a plastic case, but we've all spend between $300-$800 on Vegas or Vegas+DVD. What's an extra couple bucks for the box? And we're not ordering from a discount outlet eigther. I'm just going to assume that no box was a fluke until I recieve mine w/o a box and get told from SoFo there is no box. We've got to tell them we wanted abox if we don't recieve one though... If we don't they won't know we wanted a box and won't bother sending one out next time we buy something.

I don't want to advertise with the box eigther. It's a pride thing. I've never spent this much on a piece of software and wanted to show off that I have it.

Oh, the catalog I recieved yesterday (and i'm sure everyone here did too) said you can buy eigther the download or BOXED version. I'm sure they ment to send out a box, just forgot while filling all the orders.

For what it's worth, I recieved my Sound Forge 6.0 in a box.
Mention was made of an(ugly?)VV3.0 box, so that was sent out in a box.
I still think they were caught off guard by the record number of orders placed.
Imagine being the person who ordered the boxes for V4. Your company is low on financial resources and you order too many boxes?? Ex-employee in the making!
Now, V4 is ordered in huge quantities and you HAVE to send out boxed versions to the retailers. Who does that leave without boxes...people who ordered directly from SoFo maybe?

I got my copy of v4 about 5 minutes ago! no box though. :( The cd's were in heavy-duty cardboard. 2 cd's. Maybe i'll make a video about what life would be w/o boxes. Canadians, want to comment on what milk is like w/o milk cartons? ;)
MyST wrote on 3/12/2003, 11:02 AM
Our milk comes in plastic bags. You don't see us complaining about it!

I've always purchased my SonicFoundry software as the downloadable version when it's for myself. I have picked up SoundForge XP and Acid Music as gifts for friends though and ordered the boxed versions. Both of those came in boxes. I'd hate to have wrapped up a bubblebag as a birthday present for someone else.

I fear that, sadly, it's the initial purchasers who suffer without the official box. Probably those who purchase later will get the Vegas 4 box. But then again, we initial purchasers got a fantastic discount which the later box-getters won't get. Given the choice between a hunk of cardboard and a discount, i'll take the latter. :)

. . . i'm still reading this ?@%&* thread . . . Good point Chienworks - Maybe SoFO is already organising a "Box-Patch" we could download and it appears out of the printer . . . . .

. . . this "Canadians and milk" - a new world thing? Yeah? hmmmm m m . . .

are you been serious??

MyST wrote on 3/12/2003, 11:30 AM
Yep!
However, we also have the milk in carton containers...for the American tourists.
We also have them in recyclable plastic jugs.
About the only thing milk DOESN'T come in is bubble-wrap. ;) Then again...maybe if it was shipped via UPS...

Finatic13 wrote on 3/12/2003, 12:50 PM
mmmmmm so you dont get milk in glass bottles???
We get it in glass bottles here in the K, has a foil coloured top on, depending on the colour depends on the type of milk, full fat, low fat semi skimmed etc etc
lol
I was going to ask you how you pur it out of a plastic bag, but ide guess the answer would be Carefully!,:)
