Boxed copy arrived without a box?

Alright, just to clarify the "milk in plastic bag" discussion. What this has to do with V4, I have no idea, except that I like to drink milk when working with Vegas.
The plastic bags are packaged in 3s. Each is about 250mm high by about 100mm in diameter. It's a standard size each manufacturer has to respect. Then we have a standard sized "open-top pitcher". You drop the bag in the pitcher, the bag creates it's own suction in doing this to keep it from falling out when pouring the milk.
Make a small cut at the front corner of the bag and pour. Feel free to accompany with chocolate chip cookies or Oreo cookies.

I think this should kill this thread once and for all, no? :)

I can't let a good thread die young ;)

When my mom was teaching kindergarten, the school tried an experiment with milk in 8oz. (that's ounces, or 236ml for those more advanced areas that use metric) baggies instead of in cartons for the kids' lunch. Each baggie came with a small pointed straw that was used to pierce the baggie. The kids had to pinch the bag in one hand to create a tight surface over the air bubble on top, then stick the straw through at that point. Keep in mind that these are hyperactive 5 year olds who often like to experiement with squeezing things too hard. Or better yet, maybe we shouldn't think about it.

The experiment died after two days and they've been back to using cardboard cartons ever since.

How much time off did your mom need to take after that fiasco?
The worst part is the kids were still trying to pierce the CARTON with a straw two days after that!

Has anyone considered the possibility that the boxes were delayed? I'd much rather have it NOW without the box than have to wait for the boxes to become available. And yes, UPS just delivered mine a half hour ago. BTW, the downloadable pdf manual has all illustrations in color, looks substantially cooler than the printed manual. So the only real advantage to ordering the "packaged" set are the cool CDs and the keyboard shortcuts cards.
TheHappyFriar wrote on 3/12/2003, 8:26 PM
The boxed.. um... packaged version also included a manual like book. Ironicly, that book answers lots of questions about how to use VV that are on this forum. I must be the only one who uses instruction manuals for bathroom reading. :)

A friend of mine is ordering the academic version of v4, and i belive he will get a box so i'll take his if he says it's ok. He'd probely just throw it out anyway.

The only point of this post is to add another entry to see if we can get the tote to hit 10,000.

Well, there's another reason. Reading these posts is genuinely entertaining. You guys (and gals) are fine folks. Best to you. I'm off to have a glass of milk now.

How soon before we start to see V4 boxes available on eBay? (bet I made ya go look just now, huh?) I can see it now, a thriving bootleg industry in knockoff boxes making more than the actual product.

What should the Reserve price be, do ya think?

(Oh, and yes I am just trying to bump the counter up to 10,000)

Speaking of milk... again... When I was younger and lived with my parents, we didn't have milk in cartons, jugs OR bags... we had it in glass jars. We milked goats and drank goat milk. :)
only 287 more posts to go!

What I'm guessing is that SoFo only mailed the bubble wrap packages to upgraders. I can't imagine sending this out to new purchasers. Aside from the box the other advantage I was looking for were the serial numbers (which I have now).

I didn't care much for my downloadable copy of ACID Pro 3 which had that stupid time sensative activation code. Everytime I had to reinstall for any reason it always took me 10-20 minutes of fiddling to figure out how to request a new number again. And then the short wait for the new number to come in.

I did think it was kind of suspicious that the download version and the packaged version were the same price. Usually packaged versions have been slightly more.

I still think they should print some color manuals though. I've purchased many full color Photoshop books for less than $50. And that's after the retail mark up. You would think SoFo would have enough customers wanting a manual to make bulk printing feasible. I would buy a color version. I don't intend to buy the eNovel B&W manual again. PDF isn't completely impossible to use.

So when we hit 9,999 posts in the Vegas forum, how likely is it that we'll crash the server with everyone trying to post at once to be number 10,000?

Sorry to burst your bubble(wrap) guys, but it's TOPICS, not posts that are counted.
So these posts aren't getting us any closer to 10,000.

jbjones: i haven't found any difference at all in activation between boxed & downloaded versions. Both come with a serial number and activation key. Both can be registered online or over the phone or through another PC that is online. Both need to be reactivated and reregistered if reinstalled. The only difference is that the boxed version comes with a serial number printed in the manual and the downloaded version contains the serial number in an eMail (which you should save and print out).

This is the saddest thread ever...

When you say "saddest"...Do you mean saddest like- The little boy's puppy got run over by a milk truck. OR The lack of substance is sad...? Because if you meant the second one...sadly, it isn't.
We're having fun with a light topic which shows just how stable Vegas really is when we're sitting here discussing boxes and milk.
A fellow Vegas user wanted to discuss something that was slightly upsetting him. Is that so bad?
I've seen much sadder threads. Some are so sad, you really can't bring any humour into them. At least some of us are having a good time with this. Hell, I might even make a pictorial documentary in Vegas about how us Canadians manage to pour milk out of a bag. Maybe I'll post it on Kelly's video sharing site. Now THAT would be sad!! :)

The last time i was visiting friends in Barrie (about an hour north of Toronto), they got one of those milk bags out of the fridge and put it in the pitcher. Apparently this surprised me enough to put a very strange expression on my face. They broke out laughing at me and almost spilled the milk! Now that would have been a sad video.

"...almost spilled the milk! Now that would have been a sad video."

If that's true then nobody can transfer because, according to SoFo, the academic and regular license are the same.
