[Bug report] Borders AND GL transitions?

Holly-Samson wrote on 12/7/2023, 2:48 PM

I bought and installed Pro 21 a few weeks ago, as an upgrade from MovieStudio 14! However I've been having issues with getting borders to work properly when also using Event Pan/Crop and Picture in Picture, and after reading online I found the only work around was to turn off GPU acceleration. While it made things slower, it did work.

Then yesterday I applied a couple filters from GL transitions, but noticed they were rendering extremely pixelated. If I turned back on GPU acceleration (using my Optimal Intel Iris XE), the GL transitions rendered fine, but then my borders were messed up again! Even though these problems weren't covered in the updates for build 187, I thought it couldn't hurt to update anyway. So I just installed build 187 but not too surprisingly I still have to turn off GPU acceleration to use borders, or turn it on to use GL transitions.

Is there a way I could use both in the same project (other than building a stand-alone video and bringing it into another project)?

It should work without having to turn GPU Acceleration Off and On.

If it does not work after installing the latest recommended Intel Graphics driver from the Vegas Help menu, add the words [Bug Report] to your topic title to make sure it will get noticed by the right people.

I looked at the Help menu but the download was listed as "not found" so I changed the title. Thank you.

@Holly-Samson I think no is the simple answer @mark-y it's been discussed a couple of times, https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/the-border-event-fx-is-not-correctly-displaying-on-vegas-20-or-21--142215/?page=1

If Stretch to fill frame is switched off the border fills the full screen like this, there's no way to make it fit the Pan/Crop selection.

@Holly-Samson I create a border from a png capture using the HOS Otterbar option to open the png in a separate photo editor, yep it's a pain but once the border is created it can be changed because it's saved as a Take & you don't have to mess with your GPU.

It would be good to have that border issue fixed once and for all. I mean surely it can't be that much of a programming difficulty. Having a border function in the masks would be great too.

Gid - I don't have Otterbar, but in other projects I've used Photoshop to do the same thing. Only I simply put the larger background image on the track below the photo. Take is really cool, especially with multiple colors, thanks for the demonstration! Unfortunately in this project I have like 50 images of different sizes, and it's too time-consuming (and too many stacked layers) to make "borders" for each one. So I just settled on having the transitions be pixelated, it's kind of its own interesting effect I guess.

Holly-Samson wrote on 12/7/2023, 5:57 PM

Mindmatter yes! Creating a border seems like such a basic function, and to not have it functional for multiple releases is really surprising!

@Holly-Samson 👍 The Otterbar options I use are the free ones, you can pay for the extra buttons but so far I've had no need. https://tools4vegas.com/home/ Yep it's a pain if you've a few borders to do, if only Vegas Borders + Pan/Crop would work as wanted 🤷‍♂️

Holly, all of my borders, frames, and titles I have done in Photoshop for two decades owning Vegas. It's just better for my needs.

Gid - thanks for the information!!

Mark-y - Vegas Image looked really cool with Pro-Post, but I couldn't justify the cost, nor did it seem to be needed since I've also used Photoshop for too many years...

Holly, I have a few things that Vegas Image is cool for, but not enough to justify the extra subscription cost. A free photo editor that I have used more recently is called Photo Demon.

@Holly-Samson Hi, I've been going through effects to see if I can find one that creates a border with Pan/Crop adjusted, I have 👍 but you need Boris Continuum, BCC DVE will create a border, this vid hopefully explains better.

Ridiculous that you need (very expensive) Boris Continuum to create a simple border effect to a cropped image in Vegas. Vegas should have the (working) tools to achieve this. This bug has been addressed so many times...

In my other nonpro NLE, I can create easily a border around everything, even around irregular shapes just by dragging a slider.

Gid - I'm drooling over the beauty, simplicity and effortlessness of the Boris Continuum solution.

Vegas are you listening?

@Holly-Samson Continuum is a highly cost-effective plug-in Swiss army knife. It contains more than 300 effects, more than 40 transitions and more than 5,000 presets, beating NewBlue TotalFX, Sapphire, Ignite Pro and Red Giant Universe.

Continuum includes everything, including Particle Illusio (extremely powerful particle engine), Title Studio (more powerful than NewBlue Title Pro and proDAD Heroglyph), Primatte Studio (the best keying in the world) , Beat Reactor (let FX auto dance to the music), Mocha (let FX follow the moving objects, let FX be limited to the tracked roto area), Beauty Studio, Optical Stabilizer, Optical Flow Slow Motion....

In the 2024 update, they even added audio visualization tools, AI noise reduction and AI upscaler ...

As a Vegas Pro user, you even have the opportunity to get it at a preferential price: https://borisfx.com/faq/vegas-pro-faq/

Q. I love the Boris FX Continuum Units plugins for VEGAS Pro 20! Can I upgrade to the full suite?

Yes! VEGAS Pro 20 owners can upgrade to the full suite of Continuum plugins at the discounted price of $395.00. Please contact sales for more information.

Most important of all, their engineers are very active in solving various problems for Veags users in the forum.

So, at present, Continuum is almost the best plug-in companion for Vegas, in all aspects.
