C Drive re-install

Hard Drive crash update:

My C drive did fail in a bad way along with the D drive I had My Pictures on. However one of the last things I was able to do on the C Drive was copy “My Documents” files to the safe E Drive.

Then my Tech friend rescued My Pictures from the D Drive then that drive crashed also.

These were 2 Western Digital drives about 6.5 years old and installed together. I think it is unusual for both to fail in the same week's time.

Tonight I have been reloading my programs and keeping an eye on what is a “new” computer with a Samsung 500GB SDD as the new C Drive. (The E drive is a 2TB HDD about 3.5 years old at this time. Will it fail at 6 years also?)

We also installed a 770 vid card as a companion to my 970 main card. I have not played with that combo much yet.

After I installed Vegas Pro 13 all my videos opened okay expect on 70% of them I had to re-link the pictures aspect. It found them very quickly and I have a fresh save of every video.

I consider myself very lucky!!!

Our next plans are to use my new Zoolz cloud backup 2 TB account for said pictures and videos backup and a weekly system image.
We will buy another SSD to set up a RAID1 to further protect my C Drive files.

Good luck everyone,
Bill

It will fail. That's all you have to remember.

For less than the price of recovering a failed drive you can install a NAS with 16T of RAID storage. What you back up and save is your option.

I will look into this option with my tech person also and understand they can have a higher level of reliability.

In reading about the SSD's, they can have a different type of problem with errors.

It seems a multi-pronged system of backups is the best way but takes up more time to implement. I am adding my 500 GB USB type external drive as a "quick dump" for finished video projects and pics along with the other options I discussed earlier.

Then at the 5.5 year mark for my E drive I will consider scrapping that for a new one.

Thanks for your thoughts,
Bill
