Can ANYONE get the storyboard to function correctly?

Kinvermark wrote on 9/3/2018, 10:11 PM

I have been trying, without success, to diagnose problems with the Storyboard feature, including:

1) Swapped media getting out of order (not always immediately, but always eventually),

2) Dynamic link between main storyboard and timeline failing,

3) Sections of spanned media (ie audio or graphics on tracks above/below the main timeline) gets deleted,

4) Hover scrub stops working,

5) In/Out points set by hover scrub are not carried to main timeline upon drag & drop of main (occasional) or unassociated (always) storyboards,

6) Ctrl-mousewheel re-sizing of thumb nails results in crash (occasional).

Anyone having better luck with this feature?

My experience so far.

1. Not yet.

2. Not yet.

3. Not yet.

4. Not yet. Actually wish there was an option for disabling the hover scrub feature.

5. Yes.

6. Not yet.

But tbh, I haven't used it extensively. Just experimenting so far. I actually like to do most things on the main timeline itself.

@Kinvermark (and basically anybody), it would be helpful to include your system spec (cpu, mem, etc...) in your signature to see if issues could be specific to HW differences or not.

OK, updated signature. (Windows 10, intel i7-980x, 24GB RAM, AMD R9 290, SSD & RAID media disks.)

@bitman

Does it work for you?

So nobody can confirm this feature is working for them?

Either that or nobody cares about this feature? (Besides me and @gary-rebholz of course 😀)

I was excited about the possibility of this feature, but unfortunately I find it unusable as yet because of the problems mentioned above. Also I had run ahead of myself in initially thinking of it of creating segments with multiple tracks - much like a sub-project. However, it is what it says it is - a storyboarding device for the simple organising of ideas. I will watch its development with interest, but for now don't plan to invest any more time into making it work.

I don't see any post confirming it's 90% working & fully functional, so it is not. The bugs & limitations on the storyboard related problems seems it is not just easy to fix, but let's hope upcoming V16 builds patch this problems, if not wait for V17.

Probably right.

I don't want to be too negative, but this IS a HEADLINE feature for Vegas 16. Even the promo video with just four clips appears to show an error when dragging an unassociated storyboard to the timeline (look at the clip order.)

Would be nice to hear from Magix that this is being worked on feverishly and will be fixed soon - or better yet, prove me wrong and tell me it works (for someone.)

As I memntioned in the other post I am using the storyboard feature. I really like the idea, but I also see some issues (see https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vegas-16-storyboard-issues--112659/)

To your questions:

1) yes, I see this too

2) when the timeline gets complex, yes

3) not tested yet

4) no. Hover scrub works for me ok. What breaks after some time is the preview in the preview monitor

5) yes, I have seen this too.

6) No. Works for me.

I agree with you that the storyboard is a key feature and I am sure that the Magix Team is working hard to make it usable. If it works as advertised and maybe a bit more it can become an important differentiator to the competition.

Will try this later as SB seem like a very cool tool.

I have not worked with the storyboard because I would want to audition clips first via mouse hover playback in the Project Media WIndow,(and then drag those to SB) and that (mouse hover playback) does not function in PM, though it DOES work in SB, and so, a big WHY?

A couple of issues mentioned in this comment. Not sure if these have already been mentioned on this post.
