Can't add audio render to video render

JohnAsh wrote on 10/30/2023, 4:02 AM

I’ve not updated from V19 because I can’t justify the expenditure and am unlikely to gain anything given my use of Vegas as a pretty simple editor, using few of the bells and whistles.

But I’ve been struggling for many months trying to achieve a decent render that will play smoothly on my Samsung QLED TV and/or the cheapish “MYPIN” video player I bought on Amazon.

Much of the video I edit is from our travels and a lot of it is taken in the car. Trying to render to MP4, using Magix AVC or HEVC achieves poor results. Motion is skippy. Cars coming towards us skip the closer they get, and video taken from the side is pretty jumpy too. Both means of playback show beautiful steady and clear video from the original MTS files from my camera.

So I tried loading the edited clips (by copying and pasting) from my V19 window into the the timeline in v13 of Vegas Pro. There I could render using the Main Concept AVC/AAC template that matched my project settings (set from the original camera clips). This is the Blu-ray 1920x1080-50i 25 Mbs video stream. The resulting .avc file plays back beautifully on my video player. Just what I’ve been trying to achieve for ages mucking about with different settings in the MAGIX templates.

I have since found I can make the Main Concept redner option appear in my v19 of Vegas Pro with a hidden setting in options. A test render, using the same Main Concept AVC/AAC template, again produced some fine video on playback on the TV.

Now I have to add the soundtrack, and this is where I’m asking for help. In the past, I’ve used Shutter Encoder to “replace audio” but it doesn’t recognise or won’t work with the video file. So I can’t combine the .avc (even if renamed to .mpg) file with the AC3 file I rendered separately.

I’m so frustrated that I’m nearly there, but have fallen at the last hurdle. It’s a shame that Main Concept won’t render the audio at the same time as the video!

Any help gratefully received. This has been driving me bananas.

MagixAVC with Mainconcept (not a hidden option) should give an acceptable result that works on your TV assuming the framerate in the source media, project and render template matches. It includes AAC audio as well. Don't go crazy with the maximum bitrate and you should be fine.

I have a LG C2 OLED TV and VP 19 and renders from VEGAS look great.

@JohnAsh Your mts source material is presumably 50i? With your mp4 exports were you using a 25p template? If so try 50p.

Like you I shoot 1080 50i. As TV & other players usually do a better job of deinterlacing in real time than software taking its time I prefer to export as 50i. With VMS17 I use the Sony AVCHD template which gives me a 1080 50i m2ts file for TV use. If I want a higher bitrate file I do avc and ac3 exports. I haven't tried Shutter Encoder to combine the streams. Instead I use DVDA by quickly creating a "dummy" iso disc image and from the stream folder copying out the m2ts file it creates. With Win 10 you can open up the iso file as it mounts it on a dummy disc drive. After copying out the m2ts file I close the dummy drive and delete my iso file as it's no longer needed.

@JohnAsh

tsMuxer will get it done.

I've had a day out. I'll take a look at the above suggestions tomorrow. Thank you all!

Thank you all. I've got tsMuxer to combine my video (MainConcept) and audio files. Hooray! There's been a glitch with video produced with the MainConcept MP4 (?) render in VP19 playing back on my TV but the MPEG2 works well. I'm trying to fix the MP4 issue.

Thanks again.

For what it's worth and in the hope it might help others, the problems I had playing back MUXed video produced with the MainConcept AVC/AAC option has been solved. The problem lay with the settings in tsMUXER (I found that the unMUXed video played OK). Not knowing what I was doing, I unclicked and deselected a couple of options and now the MUXed video plays back very well. At last I got there!! I am not sure what made the difference.

I changed to "Do not change SEI and VUI data" and unclicked "Continually insert SPS/PPS". I also changed "Change fps" to 25 but I don't think that made any difference. It was one of the two first options that worked. Totally beyond me but, hey, I got there.

Thank you!

Glad you got some satisfaction.

I'm left with one small problem. Though my rendered/muxed videos play really well on both my video player and Samsung QLED TV, the latter won't FF past a certain time. Play past that time, and then FF, it still goes back to that same time. I have found a way round this by using up arrow and selecting a timed icon, showing scenes ahead of that time, and can then play and FF OK. Just one of those glitches that's annoying me and haven't found a way of fixing it. Also, I am not sure on what basis the TV is showing those timed still images, to move to, as the times seem to be random. Chapter markers put in at some stage, perhaps? The world of video formats, codecs, muxing etc remains mostly a deep mystery to me, I'm afraid.

PS Oddly, I'm pretty sure when when the TV plays pack a m2ts muxed file, a frame flashes up, before the video starts and I have a feeling it's the frame it won't FF past! Maybe?
