Can't drag video to the timeline

KoalaSciences wrote on 3/15/2025, 12:11 PM

Hello,

I just got Vegas Pro 22 and I'm having issues dragging media to the timeline. I noticed that the media I cannot drag has a negative timestamp. I did some research and the only thing that I found is that media with a negative timestamp has an offset with the video and audio, but I didn't find a solution to it. Also, I've tried to remux the .mkv "problematic" files to .mp4, and still no luck. Can you help with this issue? and how can I avoid it in the future? I very new to Vegas.

I thank you in advance,

Koala

I don't know if I will be able to upload this into the cloud, it is a 50Gb file... For the other files that work, I think pretty much everything is the same, the only difference is the time stamp marked in Vegas properties: for the files that work the timestamp is positive and for the ones that don't work it's negative... I have no clue why.

I thank you!

I'd use Shutter Encoder to rewrap from MKV to MP4 and possibly clean up any errors in the file.

If no satisfaction, I'd try

  • Legacy GPU decoding in Vegas Pro Options / Preferences / File I/O
  • Try Another Decoder

or

  • turn off GPU Acceleration all together.

then

  • Report

Hi John,

I thank you for your answer. I firstly tried changing to Legacy GPU decoding, and to turn off GPU decoding all together.

What worked for me was Shutter Encoder. I can see the rewrap in this program works better than OBS. I transformed the file to H264 and poof! now I can use it in Vegas. I thank you!
